The Mirror Borg (spoilers for Destiny)

We know they exist in the mirror universe because we saw them in "The Worst of Both Worlds", but how is this possible? The only exist in the main universe because of the presence of Columbia at Caeliar.

Perhaps the Borg of the mirror universe originate from our universe. And learned of the mirror universe from assimilated knowledge.

We've seen in "Scorpion", with fluidic space, how they tend to end up in places where they aren't supposed to be.

It's Star Trek people, the borg are only "over with" for as long as the authors need them to be.

Mirror Borg, Borg from the past, Borg-like Off shoots with major differences yet similar abilities...

That's one of the reasons I have trouble believing Picard. Yeah, all the borg from this universe (MAY) be gone or evolved or whatever, but for all we know, Psychic Borg could leap from the head of Seven of Nine at some point and those new borg could be allies in the end.

IDIC.

The Borg in the MU might have simply arose by way of any of the other origins suggested before 'Destiny' came along. Check about Memory Beta, there are 5 different versions of the Borg's origins. The MU could be just another version.

Pick up the next issue of Star Trek Magazine; the article I wrote on the history of the Borg deals with the origin problem and the Mirror Universe (though that's a tangential issue).

There could always be an ISS Columbia and mirror Caeliar.

While it's possible that the events of Destiny could have happened in the Mirror 22nd-century, I'm genuinely doubtful that they did. I think the Caeliar would have been well aware that the humans aboard the ISS Columbia were not particuarly... pleasant, and their initial inclination to destroy the oncoming ship would have ruled the day. And then for the unique set of circumstances that led to the destruction of Erigol, I really don't see that as happening. There are simply too many variables in play.

I suspect that the reason the Borg are different in the Mirror Universe is related to Destiny, in the sense that the Mantilis events didn't happen there and, thus, Sedin didn't degrade into madness.

Heck, the mirror Caeliar would probably take one peek into the ISS Columbia's database and shunt the whole of the Earth Empire into some backwater galaxy trillions of light-years away...that is, unless the mirror Caeliar are EVIL and if they were, then they'd probably have subjugated the galaxy in a Borg-like fashion already...
