The Mighty Chewbacca - The Force Awakens (Spoilers)

Don't forget, he took enemy damage during the Battle of Endor. You'd be lucky to get a 486 processor to work after phaser fire.

But that droids speak "Binary", a language consisting for more than two sounds, is stupid.

All computing is binary at its core.

All present day use of computing, yes, is binary. But we're talking about advanced, futuristic, computers here capable of artificial intelligence. And what I more mean is that the series of beeps and such R2 makes aren't nearly enough to form any meaningful words or phrases.

Seriously, he makes four or five noises and people extract an entire phrase from him when in binary those four or five noises is only A potential value set of 32, hardly enough to build a language off of only 32 "words."

You realize this is the same franchise where a "parsec" was a measure of time (that was much, much, much later retconned away, and poorly so), right? Lucas just likes using words that sound sciency in a vague, largely ignorant fashion just because it sounds cool.

Clearly droids don't speak in binary. They speak Binary, which isn't the same as binary. Notice the capitalization differences.

Edit: Fixed my blunder about parsecs.

I don't know, the explanation of the "parsec" thing works enough for me. That space travel in the SW universe is more navigational than it is anything to do with distances and speed.

Which would be a problem if Star Wars were attempting to be 2001-grade hard sci-fi, but it's not. So it doesn't deserve this level of dissection.

I did. XD

Right, and why would that be something to brag about regarding the Falcon rather than its navigator/computer/Han's balls? It doesn't make the Falcon fast, which was the implication of the bragging.

Rey seemed impressed with the idea of making the Kessel Run in 14 parsecs. Solo of course corrected her with 12. Didn't even sound like bragging. Sounded like "dumb kids don't know just how close that is to death".

I wonder how R2 managed that.

I thought he might have programmed himself to wake up whenever Luke or any Skywalker came within range, but this is probably not the case, because Leia didn't trigger it.

In NuWars, all life is sentient - even Droids - so The Force becomes available to all. IOWs, bye-bye midiclorens, hello return of sense of wonder about the Force.

;)

Specific bio signature?

On the other hand, this is Artoo Detoo. He does what he wants.

When Artoo woke up, wasn't 3PO saying something about him yelling that he finally unlocked it or something? Like way too much in Star Wars, the timing was just another coincidence and had nothing to do with Rey or Leia. Especially since Leia had been near him quite a bit already.

What I took from the scene was that he went into low power mode so he could focus all his active processing power to decrypt what turned out to be a heavily encoded map. And once he did, he became excited and tried to let everyone know that he finished.
