Not beyond the first episode, I don't think. The daughter was doing a project on her family, and that's how they explained it, but hard to explain that throughout multiple episodes.

Yeah, the confessionals were part of a school project that the daughter turned in already, but the confessionals keep happenin'.
I've watched the first three episodes, and it is terrible. MJF has a long history as a television actor, and I grew up watchin' Family Ties and loved Spin City, so I tuned in for nostalgia, but this show sucks out loud, and even he can't save it.

It's a foreign exchange student that used to live in their house doing it. I don't remember what episode it's from though.

I think part of the problem is too many characters. As someone said his sister adds nothing.
So I said what I usually say when I'm enjoying a show...
"KISS HER, FUCKING KISS HER! KISS HER YOU FUCKING NONCE! KISSSSSSSSSSSS HER!!!!"
And he did.
Which is when everything exploded.
Interesting. Had no idea they dropped it, but it's good of them to realize it wasn't really working for them. That said, I hope this show does the same. It doesn't need them, and all it does is create kludge.
She's the cliche kooky family member. It's really nothing new.
The credits make me cringe. Its so goody goody.
So was Anne Heche brought in to save the show, or was she coming anyway?
She came in during the 3rd episode I believe. Probably already planned.
I have to wonder if this show struggling is making Robin Williams a bit sad.

Mork and Mindy was cancelled in 1982 as Family ties was beginning.

The Michael J Fox Show had a full season order already when it was first announced. It has some time to fix its problems. I am a HUGE fan of MJF and even I will admitt it needs to be reworked. Of course besides the quality it does not help that overall NBC's ratings are horrible. Robin Williams show no doubt gets a little boost from adverting during CBS other series. Which people actually watch.
Yeah, they banked it on Fox alone. From what I've heard, when it was being shopped around, NBC bid on it sight unseen due to his name.
I feel like The Crazy Ones was poorly advertised before the premiere. The commercials made it seem like a heart-warming father/daughter in their advertising business drama. I avoided it for this reason, because I'm not usually a fan of the law firm/advertising firm type shows. So it surprises me to hear that it's actually a half hour comedy!
I saw endless ads of Robin Williams singing a song to Kelly Clarkson about special sauce exploding all over his face 
I checked out The Crazy Ones. Most pleased to discover it has Sarah Michelle Gellar in it, and I enjoyed what I saw so far. It has potential it is not yet achieving though.
Historically I have always disliked Robin Williams, apart from The Fisher King. I'm kind of disappointed to find his new show is much better than MJF's. He could still do with toning down the clown act though.

I watched the first two episodes and didn't feel the need to watch anymore. I can see where it has potential, but not enough for me to watch until (or if) it gets better. As others have said, the sister is extremely annoying, and I don't care for the older son as well.
