The Melting Pot

Also, I think India might not be too keen on the UK's 'love', considering what happened during the colonial era. ;)

Well, India may not love the UK, but the UK loves India.

Most Indians I know, were born in India and raised in Uganda 'actually'- and came to the UK in the 1970s, from Uganda, not India, because of Amin... I refer of course, to both of my next door neighbours growing up and even my neighbours here now.

We deport failed asylum seekers, and also, France, banning Muslim women for expressing their religion, in effect, telling the French what they can and can't do becuase it isn't French, again,

Speaking of that, there is really no problem with this law. The women I know who were wearing a full veil don't wear it anymore. Everyone is discovering that under their Belphegor costume they're charming women and their interaction with everyone has improved. Incredible...

is something soo un-British.
Cool :) Another reason to like this law !

What, if you guys wanted a French Empire, then you shouldn't have tried to take this Island, that's why we stopped him, SAME thing with the Nazi's, it's not like we hate France or anything; but when building empires, just leave this island alone. Okay? :)

And of course, it's fine if you take the rest of Europe under your iron fist, just leave our fair and green island alone.

Seriously?

I'm glad the British are out there, always stopping people from creating empires. No sir, no one will ever create any sort of oppressive, globe-spanning instrument of imperial might while the British are on the case!

We can't be successful each time we try that...

We hate opression, but we can't police the world, I don't think anyone can, try as they might.

There's a real difference between policing the world, and not letting it be taken over.

Why do you think we declared war on Germany in 1945, anyway?

Actually, I meant... Not letting it be taken over; I like that

I meant that but you just phrased it better than me... :)

No one can stop the world from being taken over, the allies proved that. - But for real, don't touch this island, we will get you.

I heard it was '39... ;) '45 was when it ended, '38 was when WW2 started.

A lot of Changes happened to England then... everything that happened then, lead to the melting pot I live in today, all of it, baby boom, migratiom, economics and immigration...

**If the EU tried to get us instead of work with us, we will try to get them too, I don't know how that'll work out today, but we don't like people trying to over throw the crown lol. -- History shows.

And actually, you know what, I love London, I think it's a special place, so yeah, God Save the Queen. :)

Yep, policing the world can have negative connotations.. such as insinuating that the people of the country we're 'helping' don't want us to be there, and we're sticking our nose in too much.

I don't want to police the world. That would take far too much effort. Leave it to the bigger countries... ;)

Oh, and doh! You caught me on that one. I'm tired, and I got the dates wrong. I will hand in my historian card immediately. I meant '39.

'Tis cool, records from that era are sketchy at best hehe, I'm kidding, but nah, it's fine, happens to all of us :).

Wow this thread is all sorts of randomness and the stupidity from some quarters could power the whole of Greater London if it was that tangible.

Anyway, I suspect the vast majority of the World isn't too impressed by how Britain has acted while we had an Empire and more recently aswell.

I for one, being a plucky Brit and all isn't exactly impressed at how we've acted internationally throughout the centuries.

The Germans feel guilty for WWII, I guess the British feel guilty for our conduct in the empire; well, the Queen does, I think, but hey, if that means more people are entitled to UK residency; and I get to meet/know more people for it, then from Hong Kong to Grenada, I welcome it.. :)

And anyway, migrants to the UK are made up of soo much more than people from the Common Wealth and those who claim asylum -- My Japanese Embassy trip taught me how the UK was home to the most Japanese Citizens outside of Japan; For Example.

I don't feel guilty for the conduct of the Empire, it's in the past and all, what I said and you didn't seem to understand was that I'm not impressed with the conduct of the Empire.

As for Germany feeling guilty for The Second World War, that might be so, but you know what, because we wanted to exact revenge on a defeated nation and make them pay for the First World War, we basically put them in the situation that anything was better than what they had, and we really should realise that and maybe, just maybe say sorry for that because if it wasn't for that, the entirety of the twentieth century post 1918 would have been different.

Isn't London soo diverse because the Queen's all like... Well we owe your people for rulling you like we did; I'm sure she has her own views of History.

Little lone our politicians being all like; You can live here if you're gonna get murdered at home for thinking/looking different.

And empire and asylumn aside, people do move here for skilled jobs anyway, from all over, because it's alright here.
