The Matrix 4

I'll die on the hill for Cloud Atlas, which is one of my all-time favorite movies. That's enough that I'm always willing to give them a chance.
They have never failed to entertain me. Jupiter Ascending is a work of art. And through the use of certain substances it becomes a high concept comedy where Eddie Redmayne plays Dennis Reynolds if he ran the universe. It is a perfect film.

I like dogs.

I mean I'm interested . . . but at the same time nothing I've seen so far has really grabbed my attention. The original movie was something special. The sequels were a confused, bloated, pretentious mess in constant danger of disappearing up it's own arsehole. So far this one looks more like the latter than the former, only with an added layer of predictability and nostalgia bait. I mean "I still know Kung-Fu"!? Really? That's not even trying.

Honestly, I hope they're pulling a fast one and that these trailers have been edited cleverly, so that the actual plot of the movie is something much more interesting than: "Trinity is THE ONE too now, and together they are a dyad in the force, and also somehow Palpat---I mean, Smith returned!"

So this is apparently more of a direct sequel than a reboot of the first movie? Interesting. Not quite sure about the new Smith guy, though; he doesn't seem to have the same gravitas that Hugo Weaving has. I'll keep an open mind.

For my part, I thought the first sequel did a nice job of expanding elements of the Matrix world and revealing some very interesting ideas relative to what's said in the original film. Revolutions fell more flat because I didn't feel like it followed up those ideas well and wasn't paced good either.

Thus far I am intrigued enough to want to try. But, I have no idea what the plot is (which is fine) so I have no idea what to expect or even to engage with Neo at any level. But, I do like the superpowers in the Matrix Neo is showing.

From the new trailer it's looking more and more like the fan theory that The Matrix was made as movies in The Matrix and Keanu was going to make a fourth The Matrix sequel in The Matrix and then he starts to "wake up" again and this movies Agent is his talent agent seems more true. It looks like he's actually watching The Matrix in a movie theater in a clip or two.

I tend to see them both as one movie in two parts, as that's pretty much how they were written and shot. So if a movie fails to realise and execute interesting ideas in the third act that it planted in the first and second acts, then it's still a bad movie, even if it's split into two parts. Hell, that makes the first half even worse since it's bound to wind up being so aimless and anti-climactic.

As for how it expanded on the mythos of the first movie; I can't help be feel this is one of those cases of "less is more." The idea of Zion was a lot more interesting than the sweaty rave town it turned out to be.

As low as my expectations are, I really don't think it'll be that stupid. I mean it only just barely worked for Wes Craven, and that was when it was an original idea.
Pretty sure those are just someone showing him the past, trying to get him to remember.

I don't think that's the case, the new bad guy calls him Mr. Anderson, the same way Smith always did.
When he was seeing clips from the first movie, I think that was nuMorpheus showing him his past life.

I don't think that's the case, the new bad guy specifically calls him Mr. Anderson, the same way Smith always did.

Yeah, the theory is the matrix actually happened but then when the machines re-inserted Neoninto the matrix they made him an actor and the events for the matrix movies were a movie trilogy he starred in, which was how the machines allowed the humans of The Matrix to make their choice of remaining in the matrix or not, even if that decision was subconscious, as per the treaty at the end of matrix 3.

Oh, OK. I thought you were meant that Keanu Reeves was playing himself and they're going to treat it like the Matrix was real and he's been Neo all along.
That could also explain the crowd of people grabbing at him as he jumps off the building.

Yeah if that theory is true his name may not be Thomas Anderson at the start, he may have a different name until he realises who he is, so I just wrote Keanu

Given that a much older Niobe shows, it's a sequel based off how Matrix Revolutions ended. I'm guessing the machines just plugged Neo back into the Matrix and somehow brought back Trinity, maybe even using her to keep Neo trapped.
