What do you think of this episode?I think it's a great one even though it's a little werid.I thought it was kind of funny how Spock was argueing with head person on Gideon regarding Kirk.The Gideon councel keept twist Spock's words and claiming they didn't have Kirk and which they did the whole time.Kirk belived he was on the Enterprise but his crew wasn't there,in which he was on exact repleca of the Enterprise but it was not oppertive and his crew was not there.Gideon councel sure played tricks on his mind.So what did you think?

Well, it's the only TOS ep with my name in it (and the Lorelei Signal has my daughter's...)

I remember really disliking it, but when I rewatched it a couple of years ago, I found it clunky but okay. Everybody bumping into each other in the windows of the council chamber was a pretty hysterical way of conveying overcrowding.

Didn't really like this episode. And the concept that a people whose planet had such overcrowding problems would build a full sized starship --to coin a phrase--illogical.

It was okay. The best parts really were Spock playing diplomat (unknowingly foreshadowing his later career as ambassador).

The Enterprise duplicate is just too much to believe.
I'll believe the Gideons somehow got full schematics, blueprints, deckplans, total disclosure of everything needed to build another Enterprise.

Still wouldn't be enough to fool the captain of the ship.
There'd be things Kirk (or anyone, really) would notice that would ruin the entire scheme...A scratch on a desk, a book Kirk moved from a shelf to his desk, where he left that tricorder, a million certain bits of minutae that would signal something not right. Common things you'd recognize in your own house and would notice if they were missing or changed. Stuff the Gideons couldn't possible know in order to duplicate.

If Kirk was taken and maybe drugged, had the entire thing play out in his head, where every detail would be *exactly* as he recalled them...okay, that would maybe work better for me.

Well, when you've got maybe twenty-five extras to portray a crowd, or even the population of an entire planet, there's only so much you can do with them!

actually, I think the scenes with the crowd learing in on Kirk and the babe were creepy. I haven't seen the remix version yet, but its on my list of things to do this weekend...but yeah..its one of those episodes that as a kid, I thought it sucked..but when i saw it a few years back it grew on me..

I thought Kirk and Odona made a cute couple. It was weird listening to Hodin sound like Pat Robertson when he was explaining why the Gideonites were opposed to birth control.

I imagine that if the episode were being redone today the "replica" ship would have been replaced with a virtual reality type of set-up.Think about it,a society so overcrowded would have had to develop such technology to give the citizenery some modicum of escapism.
I have a creepy mental image of Spock and Bones finding Kirk on the planet while he is on a table hooked up to both a VR machine and a blood diffuser.
