but crombie needs to clue with her argument about the cost of the election given the province pays $160mil whether we have the election now or in 16 months.

unless something extra ordinary happens the next election won't be until 2029 i.e it's not like we're gonna have an election now an then one next June.

it's an utterly stupid argument no matter who makes its.

Ford's just trying to lock in his majority now before Trump tanks the economy and Poilievre cuts a bunch of social programs. It only serves Ford and the PCs, and does not serve the people of Ontario. He doesn't need a new mandate to deal with Trump, that's just an excuse.

I just hope it comes back to bite him somehow. I doubt he'll lose, but a smaller majority or even a minority would be nice.

Oh, Daily Mail. Trudeau was not "humiliated" at all, but clickbaiters gonna clickbait.

I read an article about this last night (from an actual Canadian source), and Kraft Heinz's complaint is ridiculous.

Trudeau's actual quote was:

"That's why we will look, as we have in the past, at things that have replacements for Canadian consumers that wouldn't be tariffed. The example from last time was Heinz's ketchup being replaced by French's ketchup because French's was still using Canadian tomatoes in its ketchup."

Kraft Heinz complained that this was "misleading", because they do make ketchup in Canada using Canadian tomatoes now. But Trudeau was explicitly talking about the trade war during the last Trump administration, and he is absolutely correct that Heinz was not made in Canada at the time. Heinz left Canada in 2014 and didn't return until 2020. So nothing Trudeau said was wrong, and this was just manufactured outrage. (Yeah, that's what the Daily Mail does, but still.)

Trudeau is not the antichrist, and not everything he says is automatically wrong.

Yep, that article is very misleading. For one, Heinz was the one to pull out of the Canadian market, and French's came in and bought the factory and rehired everyone that had lost their jobs by Heinz leaving. It then turned out that Canadians who had tried out the new French's Ketchup liked it better than the Heinz, and it became very successful. It was only after this, that Heinz turned around and came back into Canadian production using homegrown tomatoes.

So leave it to the Daily Mail in using ketchup as a dig when we have worse things to think about.

Yeah, you're right. Has it been 20 years already? It's noteworthy because we don't generally have a lot of shows that make such a cultural impact.

Looks like Arya is out of the leadership race… but not by choice. The party has told him he cannot run. It’ll be interesting to see what the reason is, if it’s made public. I believe he has previously gone against the party line in certain areas.

More than that. I think the show first came out in '02.

Wikipedia says January 2004.

I only caught random episodes here and there of Corner Gas, but one joke I remember from the show I always liked went something like this:
"I smell burnt toast. You know what that means?"
"You're about to have a seizure?"
For those who don't get the joke, it's in reference to this:

Have to admit, wasn’t expecting exposed brain matter when I clicked play!

But is that even a reference to that heritage minute? I thought burnt toast = seizure was just a common medical concept?

(It’s a bit of a scroll, but there’s a section on seizures in there.)

I know I’ve referenced that before, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen that heritage minute.

Shouldn't the party leader be bilingual (as in English and French)? His attitude of "French doesn't matter and they won't care" is mindboggling. With an attitude like that, I question his commitment to being a citizen of our country. I may not use spoken French in my daily life, but I for damn sure know that it matters and if I were ever to go into federal politics, I'd have to do some serious brushing up.

Mind you, thanks to Trudeau's nonsensical appointment of Mary Simon as GG, this guy can point to her and say, "She's bilingual and doesn't speak French."

Not a lot of call for Inuktitut at any international conferences that aren't about circumpolar issues involving Canada and/or Greenland.

This guy reminds me of the godawful math instructor I had in college. He could barely speak English, and as I recall from the end-of-term survey when we had the opportunity to rate our instructors as to how well they did, he didn't even rate 3/5. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to turf him, and I pity the students who came after us.

This jerk is in it only for his own people. He couldn't care less about the people of Canada as a whole.

Think it probably has more to do with his attitude towards speaking and learning French.

Hmm, good question. Admittedly, I'm probably biased, as the group in the real world I hung out with at the time were obsessed with the Canadian Heritage Minute commercials and would always quote them on a similar regular basis. When I mentioned that Corner Gas quote to them, they all reacted with "Oh, you totally got to be Canadian to get that!"
I remember when you couldn't tune into a Canadian TV channel without running into that Heritage Minute.
Yeah, throughout the 90s they were practically everywhere, and I've found even to this day you want to get a conversation going amongst people of a certain age, just bring Heritage Minutes up and you can easily kill an hour just quoting them or talking about what you favorite one is.

My persona favorite:

attacking ford over the early election by saying that no other premier has had felt the need to call and early election to deal with trump etc.

if she was paying attention she'd know that many of the provinces had elections last year.
