Yeah, Republic of Doyle. Although it's not really a related show aside from the one crossover. Alan Hawco who played Doyle did a crossover too by appearing on Murdoch Mysteries.

And btw, there's a Trek connection, as originally there was a series of movies based on the books, very different in tone to the TV series, starring Peter Outerbridge as Murdoch (also played Murdoch's mentor in a later episode of the series), and Colm Meaney as Brackenreid.

And Hannah Cheeseman who play Lt Ariam on Discovery was on last weeks' expisode of Murdoch.

One of my other streaming services (MLB.TV, where I get all my baseball games) would kick me out if they detected I was using a VPN.

Obviously it's your choice, whatever you want to do. But as long as you're not running the VPN when you connect to the MLB service, then I'd think you'd be fine?

Yeah, you're probably right. But I've never used a VPN before and I know - I know - I'd screw things up somehow.

srsly, thanks for the heads-up, but I'll find another way. Maybe TOR will turn up on Peacock or iTunes or some other service.

Heck, I'll settle for having them do a crossover with one of the other L&O shows. :techman:

Not Polievre! Not Polievre!

I wish Charlie Angus would run for PM. Now there's a man with integrity who will stand up for Canadians, one who's not afraid to call out others for what they are. I've been really impressed with him as of late.

Sadly, he's retiring from politics. I hadn't heard much about him prior to listening to a recent speech, and then I heartily wished he'd been the NDP leader.

So who is everyone's preference for the new Liberal leader? I'm honestly not really a fan of the idea of Carney getting the job. I'm also worried that, whoever it is, is going to end up being a Kim Campbell-style sacrificial lamb.
If the winner can hang on to their seat, they'll have probably at least 18 months to show what they're made of (18 months seems to be about the earliest that most snap elections are called). Of course they could always drop something in the coffee wherever the CPC dines together (PP won't let his MPs even wave to a non-CPC friend, let alone socialize with them), when the next money bill is debated. Keep them occupied in the bathrooms, then have the vote. It's dirty politics, but nothing the CPC wouldn't do. All they need is one more vote than the government side and any ally they might have, and boom. An election is triggered.

I personally like Freeland. Although I don’t know how electable she is, because people who don’t like Trudeau are probably going to closely associate her with him.

I’m not on board with either Carney or Joly.
Okay, I'm going to offer an admittedly shallow opinion of Freeland. Part of me can't take her seriously, because her clothes don't fit right. She looks like she squashes herself into that stupid red dress nearly every day, and it doesn't fit.

As to which of them I'd support... first of all, voting Liberal in Central Alberta is a wasted vote. You could run a piece of literal sh!t under the Conservative banner here and it would be elected. It's bad enough that we have to put up with a human waste of oxygen like Blaine Calkins. He's constantly whining about gun rights for farmers, and he's firmly on the side of bigots who trot out bible verses as a valid defense of anti-LGBT bigotry.

Which of them I might hope would win would depend on what they're willing to do for the low-income disabled people of Canada. Danielle Smith made it very clear how little she cares about us. Trudeau did the same, with his little bonuses here and there that were just out of our reach, or always intended for disabled people who can still work, but not for those who can't. If I hear any of them yapping about how concerned they are about "the middle class" and don't say one syllable about the people struggling far below that, they will have automatically lost any chance of my vote going to their party.

At least the carbon rebate got me some extra groceries and a new pair of slippers to replace the ones that literally fell apart. It looks like that's going to be taken away as well.

Sorry about that, I just assumed he's the only politician with a spine in your country
For the past few weeks, NDP MP Charlie Angus, who represents a riding in Northern Ontario, has been appearing on the YouTube channel The MeidasTouch. It's political, anti-Trump, and pro-Canada.

Charlie Angus, if I'm not mistaken, ran against Jagmeet Singh for NDP leader and lost. He made a terrific speech in Parliament, and here's his latest appearance on The MeidasTouch. Around the 9:00 mark, the host refers to Trump moving the ceremony indoors, then asks Angus to address Trump. The result is EXCELLENT:

Yeah, so I heard not long after I posted that. A shame since he's kind of like a bulldog, which I feel is what we really need these days. He's also a musician. He was our our folk music festival years ago. Have you seen Elizabeth May's speech? She's also been really good.

Much less than that, I'm afraid. We have a fixed election date in October. But I honestly don't think it'll even be that long. Unless Singh has a change of heart, I expect the government to fall after the vote on the throne speech.

Yeah, seems to be a thing with that party. A recent example is from this past week, when Jenni Byrne attacked Erin O'Toole for having the temerity to *checks notes* wish Liberal MP Anita Anand well on her retirement from politics. (And O'Toole isn't even in politics himself anymore!)

I'm referring to 18 months after the next election. I fully expect the Reformacons to win the one coming up.

That party has achieved cult status, in all the wrong ways.

Someone found a workaround to be able to post news links on FB, and The Beaverton has something to say about Danielle Smith.

truly a nasty little creep. I wouldn't be surprised if he's widely despised on a personal level within the party and I think we'll see the sort of division he's accused trudeau of being ramped up.

ford was bit the same when he first took office but has largely mellowed.

one time my wife's boss and a friend who's a ndp MPP traded tragically hip verses across the floor.

Ah, I see. My apologies for misunderstanding.

I’ve read at least one article lately that discussed exactly that: how disliked Poilievre was by his own party before winning the leadership. But of course now they see him as their path to power, which in their minds, expunges all sin.

so it's looking like ford will be calling an election next week for Feb 27th (just before my wife's birthday)
338Canada points to the tories romping home for a 3rd straight majority and that they'll retain my riding so my wife will keep her job.

now if that wasn't the case I'd probably still lean towards ford for all his faults.

Can't stand the ndp - don't like the socialist left any more than that hard right conservatives and they've really failed to put forward any ideas that will work plus bob rae killed any chance of the ndp ever forming govt here again.

the liberals still haven't have gotten their act together with bonnie crombie being the invisible woman again with not much in the way of policy and should have been putting herself out there a lot more. When mike schriner of the greens gets on tv more than parliamentary lead of the liberals you've got problems.

I know he probably won't be, but I really hope Ford gets punished electorally for calling an early election.

but crombie needs to clue with her argument about the cost of the election given the province pays $160mil whether we have the election now or in 16 months.

unless something extra ordinary happens the next election won't be until 2029 i.e it's not like we're gonna have an election now an then one next June.

it's an utterly stupid argument no matter who makes its.
