I'm sorry, but... WHAT?!?
I kid you not. There are some very weird people posting in the comment sections of the YT review channels for this show.
There are some weird people hosting the review channels as well. One woman (a white woman) went ballistic over a line in which Luke (June's husband, who's black) had a conversation with Commander Waterford (who's white), telling him that they had a lot in common (Luke was referring to their relative ages, education, and various things) and the host nearly had the vapors as she carried on that "Doesn't Luke realize he's BLACK?!"
Well, I guess he might have noticed it once or twice if he looked in the mirror while shaving, or if anyone mentioned to him that he was a black man with a white wife (Luke in the original novel was not black). I mean, Luke isn't the brightest bulb in the cast of characters, but he isn't
that dumb. I'm sure he knows he's black.
I actually prefer the review channels hosted by men, because they don't dwell so much on the soapish elements and they don't have these irritating, screechy voices. It's a shame that Smirking Gun Reviews isn't doing them this season. Rob is a cool guy who once thanked me for explaining a few things he hadn't understood about the Canada storyline. There's so much of that that's just plain off-kilter that Americans don't pick up on.
I don't agree with the whole "real names only" thing, just on principle. (I mean, I don't actually have an account on the CBC site, but I also strongly believe in online privacy.) But it does seem there are a lot of people who feel the way you do: it's always fun when you're scrolling through and you come across a name from a fictional show/movie/book that you enjoy!

I've even seen a few Star Trek ones over the years. I don't recall them all (never bothered to write them down or anything), but I do specifically remember seeing an "Elim Garak" crop up from time to time!
Yeah, Deanna Troi is scampering around that site, posting right-wing, sexist BS, and Prime Minister Borden seems to have risen from the grave to post there. A lot of Archie comics characters post there, too.
I remember having a conversation or two with the CBC version of Elim Garak. I don't remember the topic, though.
As for me... my username looks like what you'd get if someone from Ireland married someone from India. And that's not so farfetched in Canada, right? The only thing is that I've been told to go back where I came from, and some people can't spell; I'm using a feminine first name but some idiots just assume I can't spell and still refer to me as "he/him". The book I took this name from is one I got in my goody-bag at a science fiction convention nearly 40 years ago, and neither it nor the author are particularly well-known. I loved the book, though, and have re-read it many times. I'm guessing that the con organizers must have approached the local bookstores for contributions, and the Sentry Box cleared out some old stock that wasn't selling. I got lucky.
And I'm still trying to explain multiculturalism to that idiot on the CivFanatics forum. He's trying to tell me that Sir John A.'s purpose for the residential schools was "noble."
