Spoilers The Mandalorian season 2 discussion

Boba and Jango's armour is Durasteel according to some canon sources.

No, they didn't.

No credible entertainment news entity at any point claimed or even remotely suggested that Mercedes (Sasha Banks) was going to be playing Sabine.

That was purely fan speculation and wishful thinking.
I said rumours.

Huh. It seemed as if only Djarin acted like his armor could withstand blaster fire.

I took that as more an abundance of caution. Just because their armor CAN withstand blaster fire, doesn't mean you just want to run out into said blaster fire. Not only are their areas their armor doesn't cover, but stopping one or two bolts is a lot different than stopping an entire rain of blaster bolts.

Din Djarin is just slightly crazy, and went for it. Part of his extremist charm. He needed the mission to succeed to get his info, than dammit the mission is going to succeed. He's not exactly a big picture kind of guy. Much more a "This is the problem in front of me, I'm going to deal with this however I need to and go from there.'

One of the things I enjoy about Djarin as a character, even under the helmet and as a man of few words, is how blue collar he is about everything. Go, put in the work, then onto the next problem. He gets knocked down, he screws up. Jawas send him careening from the top of their Sandcrawler? Picks himself up, dusts himself off, and gets back to it. Their isn't any artifice to him. He's a straight line. Watching the rest of the universe react to him is almost always worth the price of admission.

So... Kara Thrace was a Mandalorian princess, eh?

Puts

"A long time ago in a galaxy far far away..."

and

"All this has happened before and will happen again..."

In a whole new perspective, eh?
(Especially given the relation of the original Star Wars films to the original Battlestar Galactica series.):whistle::rofl:;)

I said rumours.

Your statement was wrong regardless.

The Hollywood Reporter , Variety, and Deadline all either reported or independently corroborated the casting of Rosario as Ahsoka, and none of their reports on the matter ever said anything about Mercedes (Sasha Banks) being cast as Sabine.

There were in fact no reports from any of those entities concerning Mercedes (Sasha) being involved in The Mandalorian at all until after the final pre-release trailer revealed her appearance, and at no point following that reveal did any of those entities say anything at all about the character she was playing.

Going back to the Ahsoka stuff, the rumours saying that Rosario Dawson is playing Ahsoka also said Sasha Banks would be playing Sabine and that turned out to be wrong. So who knows.
I might be misremembering, but the rumours I recall reading said something to the effect of "Sasha Banks was seen wearing armour that looks very much like Sabine's"...which honestly checks out with what we got, more or less. Not surprising that people would take that extra leap.

Not that I think this means all the other rumours are true. It could all be bollocks. Lets wait and see! ;)

fair enough.

With her usual wild hair color in the ring as well I could see that might also contribute to people thinking she may have been cast as Sabine. I wonder how many non wrestling types here about Sasha Banks in The Mandalorian and are left confused as she's billed as Mercedes Varnado

I'm not going to do a review thread for The Clone Wars, but I am watching the movie. So far my favorite part of the movie is Ahsoka. She's the only one showing a little personality, and the brattyness is a nice counter of Anakin. I think I'm going to like her during the series, even if I'm ready to be spoiled by her appearance on Mandalorian.

That's a good sign for you enjoying the show going forward. She got a LOT of backlash from (older) fans after that first appearance, though the consensus gradually shifted as the show went on until she became basically the most beloved non-movie Star Wars character ever.

For my part, while I certainly didn't hate her introduction, I will admit to getting a certain "Scrappy-Doo" vibe that left me a little worried about the direction they were taking. Only a little though since it was aimed at kids after all and she was clearly meant to be the one there for them to relate to.

I think it helps that I grew up in the era of the Ewok cartoon and movies, so I remember what it was like to be most enamoured the the very thing that repulsed the few older fans I encountered. Also why I never really got on board the Jar-Jar hate train.

I watched those Ewok movies in school and I remember when Jar Jar was fresh on everyone's mind. Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie and I still hate Jar Jar. Ahsoka is not nearly as bad as either of those.

I despised Ahsoka for a long time. Now it's hard to imagine the wider Star Wars universe without her and she's one of the best things to happen to the franchise since 2008.

Ahsoka's definitely one of the highlights of Clone Wars. Though I'm sure as the series progresses and the individual personalities of the various Clone Troopers develops you'll develop a soft spot for a few of them too.

I didn't mean to suggest that liking one thing means one must necessarily like another. Only that remembering how much I loved the Ewoks as a kid helped make me cognisant that these movies are aimed first and foremost at children so there's going to be elements designed to appeal to them that an older audience might find off-putting.
I was not a fan of Jar-Jar. Like, at all. Indeed I still feel that he was an overcompensation for what was a fairly dry script, but I understand how things got to where they were.
However; the kids who's introduction to Star Wars was the PT loved him, the same way I loved the Ewoks at that age, and wouldn't dream taking that away from them. The same applies to Ahsoka, though in her case she got a much better start and WAY more opportunity to grow with the audience.

The individuality of the clones was one of the more surprising elements. From what I recall at the time they were making the show Lucas was operating under the premise that the Stormtroopers of the OT were indeed clones (some Jango, some from other templates) but as the show went on and he realised how attached the the clones the young fans became, he decided to switch nix that idea as it might be too upsetting for them to watch the OT and see them as villains. So now Stormtroopers are just normal conscripts...which also helps explain why they're such rubbish shots.

Ventress's development was a pleasant surprise too. Not that she started out as a bad character persee; she was cool in that "two dimensional baddie" kinda way...and a lot less dumb than Grevious. But they still managed to take her character in some unexpected directions.

I watched the two episodes of Season 3 that I was supposed to see last night and the more I'm watching the more I'm liking General Organa and Rex. It's still early and I feel like I am jumping around a lot though. There's not much cohesion so far so I'm hoping now that I'm supposed to follow Season 1's order, things might get easier to understand.

Like I said, it is an anthology show so there's no real overt overarching story being told (and definitely no dumb mystery box narratives!) It's not even really telling the story of the war itself, just using it as a backdrop to tell a whole bunch of different stories. The attraction is less about the plot and more about the characters, but yes it does get a lot more focused from season two onwards.

It also sort of redeems the characterization of Anakin Skywalker. Gives him more depth and actually makes you care about what will happen in Revenge of the Sith. Make it cut deeper knowing him better and how the people around him view him.

It also introduces us to Mandalore and its people for the first time in canon. Which it along with Rebels helps setup somethings that are likely to be seen in The Mandalorian.

I was, until I saw an article on one of the sites I go to that explained that Sasha Banks was her stage name, and Mercedes Varnado is her real name. I'm a little surprised she went with her real name, most wrestlers seem to at least start out with their stage name, before eventually switching over to their real name. Just look at how Dwayne Johnson's credits have evolved over the years, he started out as The Rock, then Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and now just Dwayne Johnson.

General Organa? Do you mean Bail? He's a Senator, not a general. I believe the Jedi are the only Republic generals.
