The Man Trap - He said WHAT?!

I've just watched The Man Trap after a very long time.

I forgot how good it was. There's not many shows on TV that involve a man bitchslapping a woman shouting "IF THIS WAS NANCY, COULD SHE TAKE THIS?!" Genius!

The one question I do have though, is when Kirk and McCoy are on the planet, Kirk accuses him not being objective because of his past relationship with Nancy.

Now, am I wrong, or does Kirk say "Stop thinking with your glans, Doctor"?!

My childhood could be shattered by this :p

Well, I just checked an Internets transcript and couldn't find that line, so your childhood may be safe. However, someone with the episode at hand will have to check in and resolve the matter for certain.

That certainly shows up:

I initially thought not at all, but I was wrong. It's "glands" after they beam back down to the planet the second time (about 18m30s into the episode), Kirk says this to McCoy:

So, that's the answer, just as Hermiod said. CONFIRMED.

Subtitles save the day again ;)

Well, here, in this case... yes. I've noticed that the current, "plastic case" (4-eps-per-disc, season set DVD) subtitles (such as used above) seem to be dead-on accurate: they're noticeably better than the old, online Czech "transcripts" that I and others (such as JNG?) use (just because the Czech ones are so searchable). I'd love to have a searchable set of these current subtitles rather than the uncertain Czech ones (especially if the speaker were identified for each line) - it'd be a TOS-lexicographer's dream come true!

You can find Closed Captioned logs for TOS and the Animated Series here

Nice - these identify the speaker, include the "glands" line from The Man Trap which the Czech transcripts don't have, and have "Spican flame gems" rather than the amusingly erroneous "spike and flame gems" in The Trouble with Tribbles. Superior all around - thanks!

Favourite subtitles misquote:

TMP DE DVD, Director's commentary:

Robert Wise describes taking the "wet print" canisters on the plane to the Washington premiere "... at the Swiss Odeon", when he actually says "Smithsonian".

:guffaw:
