The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)...

I have seen that one but it isn't in my boxset, nor is The Spy in the Green Hat. How to Steal the World is my favourite...this may be blasphemy :)

I have not yet seen this movie, but I am definitely planning on it soon. I enjoy the series, but agree that it devolved into silliness. It will be nice to see a better-produced take on the concept.

I love anything set in that era. This is basically what I wish the Bond reboot had been.

That said, there wasn't really a lot about The Man from U.N.C.L.E. that I liked. The premise had potential, and the first season wasn't bad, but overall it was one of the most sexist and racist '60's shows I've seen. And as I remarked, the leads didn't seem to like each other, never really gelling as partners the way so many TV duos have done. And aside from that, its formula of always having an "innocent" get drawn into the cases was often very contrived in the execution, although there were times when it worked well. (I don't get the impression that the movie is following that formula, though.) It's my least favorite '60's spy series. So maybe a movie that takes only the basics and reinvents the rest won't be a bad thing.

I just saw it last week, and I got to say Chris, it's a great movie, with (I hope ) more coming. All of the stuff you mentioned seems to have been removed, with a more realistic set-up for how U.N.C.L.E. is at the end.

Well I'm certainly buying the blu-ray when it comes out. Here's hoping that if the "home video sales" are good enough or that the positive word of mouth for the film gets more bums on seats in the cinemas that a sequel could be green-lit. I'm also hoping that Warners releases seasons 2-4 of the tv series on DVD and re-release all 8 tv films (plus the reunion movie). At the moment in the UK we have 5 of the tv movies available.

All of the episodes are on DVD, and the reunion movie's also on DVD, but not from Warners (that was made by Viacom Productions, which is part of Paramount Pictures, and it's on home video from them as CBS Video.)

I'm waffling on buying TMFU television series' first season set on DVD. I'm definitely picking up the newly released film on Blu-Ray.

Saw the movie in the theater last week. Was kinda bored. Something about the tone & the pacing doesn't quite work, although there are a handful of fun bits, like when Solo is snacking in the truck while Illya has a big boat chase in the background.

Honestly, the best part of the movie was Alicia Vikander dancing with Illya. She just oozed charm in every single scene. And she totally rocks the giant sunglasses! I expect we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the years to come.

Also, I do give Henry Cavill credit for doing his homework. While I haven't seen much of the original Man from U.N.C.L.E., I've seen enough of Robert Vaughn in other things to say that Cavill did a great job of capturing Vaughn's mannerisms & cadences.
