The lunar eclipse

looks great. Go watch it! The next one is in 2010. LEave th computer for minute.

We have a perfect view from our bedroom window. Right now you can see the shadow nibbling at the edge of the lunar disk

I'm looking at it through my window as well...excellent view so far, as long as the clouds hold off. I'm not going outside since the wind chills are subzero. :)

unless i take my laptop outside, i am stepping out every 10 or 15 minutos with my oldest kid so he can look at it at well, but he doesn't really care.
i can't remember the last time i saw one, i think i was in college.

Good that you are making an attempt at showing him things that are special and beautiful, if in an understated way.

This is shaping up to be the best one I've seen in awhile, I think. Got about an hour before totality starts...I may just have to put on the parka and mukluks and take my camera out for a bit.

While you're at it, take a look at Saturn tonight. It's just a few degrees away from the moon. The rings are still visible, but they won't be for much longer. I forget the precise timetable, but later this year Saturn's rings will be edge-on for some time.

Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in about 30 minutes ago. Afraid the show's over here, unless I get to see the tail end of the thing later. :(

It's been in totality now for about 25min...best eclipse ever. Just say'en CNY is where clouds go to die so we usually don't see 'em when they do happen.

Just glanced outside. Moon's a bit red, but I seem to have missed most of it. Oh well.

It's red because the earth is completely covereing it. wai a litlle longer and you will see the second part.

There's a certain kind of eeriness to a lunar eclipse, I think because of the ruddy coloring.

I was freezing my #@$h off watching it. VERY beautiful, had a nice cloudless open sky, mostly away from lights, it sure did get blood red. Took some pics with my camera, but they didn't turn out so well. At least I got to see one for a change, liked seeing Saturn and Regulus nearby it as well.

Just tried the binoculars, saturn is in de lower left side of the moon? It looks like flat star.

Was it a total solar eclipse?

Nah, partial:

It was a total eclipse here in Boise, Idaho. I got to see it as the earths shadow completely cover the moon right after I got out of class at BSU. A bunch of students were stopped between buildings sitting on the grass looking up at it. Several of the people I was with had never seen one before and were really enjoying it. I was just glad to see it because it looked like it there would be to many high clouds but they dissipated.

When I got home I got out the telescope I bought at Wal-Mart for 25 bucks last month and got to see Saturn's rings, and to check out the eclipse. Man seeing those rings with my own eyes for the first time with my own small telescope is something I will never forget. It wasn't as big as I thought it would be, but it was a very beautiful site. I even had my wife come take a look and she loved it as well.

Overall wasn't as cool looking as the one a few years back yet it was better after having looked at it through the telescope. If that makes any since.
