So... my entire apartment complex is watching Lost right now for some reason. I can name at least 10 other people on various episodes. Weird.

I know what you mean, when the first 8 episodes of season 4 were airing, every Friday I felt like I had at least (at least!) 5 or more different conversations with people around my office about the previous night's show.
Because I live right off of a college campus and I know everyone that lives in my row of townhouses for starters.
At least it's not Pushing Daises. 
Mass interest in Lost usually comes in fits and starts. Usually when the show is on, everyone is gung-ho as hell about it and then it dies off to nothing when it's not. Personally I use it as kind of a defense mechanism against insanity. When the show's not airing I just try not to think about it lest I go jump off a bridge or something.
