The Lights of Zetar good or bad episode

One of the worst of the third season. Scotty in love? Just freaky. Did introduce "Memory Alpha", though.

Horrible. Stupid premise (disembodied "personalities" that can travel in space at WARP SPEED?). Scotty acts incredibly unprofessionally...because of a girl. A really ugly one, too. Yeah, sure.

The colored faces with grumbling noises...really? Was that the best they could do? Ugh.

They killed the disembodied aliens with atmospheric pressure. Wow. Not enough to damage a human body, though. These were disembodied entities that could exist in open space, yet were too fragile to endure, say, 60 atmospheres. And how, exactly, did our heroes figure out that pressure would kill them?

That's my opinion. Knowing the OP's posting history, I'm sure he'll be back to tell me why it's wrong.

I rather enjoyed the show its kinder uncut to the BBC versions that was aired during the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, the DVD region 2 nice.:bolian:

That is my thoughts unless you’ve seen BBC versions of it where it trimmed down. The DVD is like the extended version of the show. In fact nearly all, the shows are extended.

I haven’t watched that episode in two years. Then again I’ve seen it 10 or more times.

Another example of Trek' propensity to spring unlikely "love" stories on us. "Hey, let's have X be in love with , uh . . . Y. Yeah, that's the ticket!"

This episode is SO bad (HOW BAD IS IT??) - they even managed to get Scotty's insignia wrong in it! If anybody can find a capture - Scotty actually has a SCIENCE insignia on his shirt!!

Its kinda awful though the premise of the lights themselves, well that is a little creepy. As a kid the whole episode and the music used to scare me. Mira was all right and I didnt really mind the love angle either. I thought it added a little depth, though poor Scotty has almost NO luck with women :)

Its not the worst of the third season but its hardly Star Trek's finest hour either. Overall I still like it and watch it whenever i catch it on TV.

Its not one I rush to load up on my DvD's however.

Vons

The romance angle is awkward, but I like the episode. I usually like episodes that give a female character something to do.

The aspect of Mira's "exceptionally pliant" learning style being a crux of the plot is interesting. After I got into college and worked with some cognition experts, that episode came to mind now and then.

However, Mira's learning style and her professional inflexibility didn't dovetail very well; I never got how those two characteristics could be compatible.

It has been ages since I have seen it, but it's one of the episodes I really want to see again. I don't know if that means I forgot how good it was or how bad it was. When I was a kid the freaky face lights were really cool though.

Was it me or did Mira's boobs seem to get bigger after they got her into the atmospheric chamber? When she was supposed to be floating they looked like balloons.

I don't know if it's just me, but I believe there were two "Scotty in love" episodes in TOS, and in both of them, Doohan's performance just made me cringe.

And I usually love the Scotty character.

I watched it last night. Not too bad. The direction was interesting with a lot of tight visuals and close-ups. Yes "Scotty in love" is a completely annoying character. I thought it dragged a bit around the middle as it took too long to get where it was going and then didn't have enough time when it got there so they rushed certain things. And yes 60 atmospheres would reduce a human body to dust long before and incorporeal being.
