One of my favourite game franchises, although I'm not really a fan of the 2D releases. It doesn't help that the first one I played was OoT. That set the bar pretty high from the start.
Thankfully, despite the awful commercials, the games are great. Zelda is one series that never gets old for me. To still be going 25 years later is quite a milestone.
For real - I had no idea what the game was, based on that first commercial, until I played it at a friends' house - I think they game was good enough to overcome it's borderline insane marketing strategy of idiots shouting nonsense names or rapping with nonsense names.
As a kid, I had no interest in getting the game, I think because the ads for it were so terrible and because it wound up having so much hype around it. Then, I played Zelda 2 and just plain hated that, so yeah. Still never played more than a few minutes of the original.
I kinda miss the era of 2D Zelda games though. Life moves on though, as does motion control that makes me feel like an idiot even as I'm having the time of my life...
I was a huge Zelda fan back in the day, but I haven't enjoyed any of them since Windwaker, which I really liked. I'm just completely burned out on them now; it's the exact same game over and over every single time. Same characters, same stories, same weapons, same temples...
Just got off the phone with Zelda. She and Link got totally wasted last night and he has the biggest headache right now, but since she's of royal Hylian blood, the lady's totally fine.
Ganondorf sent some hate mail, apparently. Nothing new.
