The Legend of Zelda - The Movie

Speaking of Metroid, where did the John Woo Metroid plans go?

If a Metroid movie ever got off the ground, they'd probably jettison Woo for someone like Brett Ratner, Paul W.S. Anderson or McG.

They should totally film it in first person only so everyone will hate it before it comes out ;)

Wow, talk about an elaborate gag!

Temis, since you mentioned you've not played a Zelda game before, my advice would be... play one, play one now. They're fantastic.

Of course he has no lines, he's Link! He's only allowed to make grunting noises when swinging his sword and that yelp thing when he does a spin attack.

But why no Navi? :D

The sum total of my Zelda knowledge is comprised of that video.

Is his name really "Link"? :wtf:

Darn....beaten to the punch.....:)

Yes his name really is Link. The reason he has no lines is because in the Zelda games Link never says a word either as voice or text.

Well, technically, he says "Yes," or "No," every now and then, when the player gets a chance to respond.

And a brilliant job by IGN, for sure. :D

But you never hear him say yes or no.

In fact apart from him yelling as he swings the sword, the only time I've ever heard Link 'speak' in a Zelda game was when he shouts 'Come on!' in Wind Waker whenever he uses the Command tune.

It's a weird Nintendo thing where they don't want to ruin the character by giving him a voice.
Which is kind of idiotic... they do the same thing with Samus. Everyone around her just blabs and blabs, but ever since the GBA game, she doesn't say a single word.

That's not limited to Nintendo. Unless you're aware of Gordon Freeman speaking somewhere that I'm not? ;) The guy in Bioshock never speaks either, save for the (very short) introduction cutscene. All of these are characters which the designers want the player to associate themselves with to some degree, which is why this is done.

Some time and money went into that. Too bad its just a hoax. It looked better than some Sci-Fi Channel features I've seen.

I was thinking something like that myself.
Looked really good.

Sharr

Better than the majority of Sci-Fi Channel movies I reckon.
We have a seconded opinion on that thought. Amazing how that occurs to people, that should tell the Sci-Fi channel people something.

exile didn't actually have a voice either. :p

That they should be making 1.5 minute long trailers instead of movies?

Seriously, it's a silly comparison. As bad as most of the Scifi Channel movies are, they require a full blown production to produce 90 minute of footage including a script, actors, visual effects, etc etc etc. A fake trailer requires a significantly smaller amount of effort. In other words: it's a hellofa lot easier (and cheaper) to make a good looking trailer then a full length movie, even a crappy Scifi channel movie.

Link should never EVER speak in a Zelda game, and if Nintendo have any sense, he won't.

Yeah, but you read it, which is as much as anyone in the Zelda-verse ever does. ;)

By the way, is anyone else obsessed with the Lon Lon Ranch song? I get it stuck in my head quite often. That animated girl is just such a good ooh-er.

No you don't even read Link saying yes or no. You may tell him what to say, but a speech bubble never appears for Link, ever.

What about the Wand of Gamelon :p

There is an update at IGN.com that explains a little about how it was made.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/864/864098p1.html
The team at Rainfall Films, which consisted of nearly 20 members at its peak, spent about three months working on the Zelda trailer April Fool's prank for IGN. The spot was directed by Sam Balcomb, who also worked on the majority of the visual effects by himself, at home, and on a Mac, we might add. (Sorry, Avid. Yay, Final Cut Pro!) "I work very often as a visual effects supervisor for music videos and stuff so me taking some time out of my evenings to work on the Zelda trailer was a hell of a lot cheaper than getting Digital Domain involved," says Balcomb.
