The Legacy of Harve Bennett?

Warped9 said:
It was the whole presentation from the stupid looking outfits to all the heavy-handed jargon. Of course a lot of that was just as much Meyer's fault as Bennet's. And then there was the crap of making STARSHIPS wallow about like lumbering 17th century Spanish galleons lobbing cannonballs at each other.

As opposed to the wonderful side passes that often showed ships moving at speeds better than Warp 7n look like they were standing still when firing? (Elan of Troyius anyone - and it's one of my favorites, but hell, if you want to nitpick).

Also, if Star Trek for you ended in 1979 - then you too should recall that Star Fleet (and the Enterprise) ONLY became staunchly non-military on TNG's run. TOS depicted Star Fleet and the Enterprise as military vessels in the EXACT SAME WAY as TWOK (sans the new uniforms). GR claiming TWOK was 'more militaristic' than the Star Trek TV series just showed that his senility and revisionism started prior to 1982.

There's PLENTY to nitpick about TWOK:

The fact the 1701 CAN'T tell there was an exploded planet in the Ceti Alpha system; and the fact that Chekov remembered Kahn even though he was not assigned to the ship yet at the time Space Seed took place; but to say:

"TWOK showed Star Fleet as more/too militaristic!"

BS - Do me a favor and go re-watch Balance of Terror, Arena, Errand of Mercy, The Doomsday Machine and The Ultimate Computer and get back to me.

Ah ... and where do you have evidence to support the claim that Chekov wasn't aboard ship at the time of ``Space Seed''?

The fact he was never shown during season one (and as for the 'he ran into Khan in the bathroom'; we ALL know the TOS Enterprise HAD no 'public' bathrooms; unless you want to believe Khan was also seeing Chekov 'on the side') ;)

Then there's the fact that NCC 1701 was not anywhere near the Ceti Alpha system! (The ill-fated NCC 1864 was, however.)

Doh! You are correct sir. My bad.

Y'know, I'm surprised that there hasn't been a novel that re-tells Space Seed from Chekov's point of view. That could be a lot of fun.

^ The ST II novelization briefly suggests a "lower decks" friendship between Chekov and McGivers, and Greg Cox picks up this thread in "To Reign in Hell".

The episodes were almost all self-contained. There is no reason to believe Chekov wasn't aboard.
And of course most of the shipboard heads are for everyone's use. What, each man gets his own??
