The least disliked episode of TOS - Season One

"Arena" is out! Gorn Guy never looked like anything but a man in a cheesy lizard costume.

Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Naked Time
The Enemy Within
Dagger of the Mind
The Corbomite Maneuver
The Menagerie (I)
The Menagerie (II)
Balance of Terror
The Return of the Archons
Space Seed
A Taste of Armageddon

Errand of Mercy

Sacrilege! The Gorn for me was an awesome monster and character! You just had to be there back in 1972 I guess!

"The Deletion of the Archons." I call it "Three Acts in a Basement," though I doubt it was that long that they were down there talking interminably. Another ill-conceived GR story. Slightly fun in a cheesy way, but hardly up to the high standards of most of the first season.

I know this will make people shithouse...but I'd say pull Space Seed

Taken out of its historical context within the franchise and held on its own merits...its an average episode at best.

"The Enemy Without" Despite it being written by one of the greats of SF, it just isn't as good as the rest.

I'll remove The Menagerie (I) as I always found this two-parter to be dull, and it's essentially a clip show from The Cage.

The Corbomite Maneuver
The Menagerie (II)
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon

Where No Man Has Gone Before has now gone. Not a bad episode at all really, but it's clearly a very rough, unfinished product next to everything else that's left.

The Naked Time
The Corbomite Maneuver
The Menagerie (II)
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever

Buh bye The Menagerie (II), because watching people watch TV is bad TV.

The Naked Time
The Corbomite Maneuver
Balance of Terror
A Taste of Armageddon
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever

A Taste of Armageddon gets my vote. It has some genuinely interesting ideas that any civilized society would be appalled over, but in a 49 minute timeframe (sans credits and commercials) so much is glossed over or oversimplified. It's the wasted opportunity that has me putting it lower than other episodes, even episodes with other goofs but largely sell their concepts well.

I agree with Taste of Armageddon too! It's one show that has never been one of my favourites, sadly! Can't believe Paradise has gone though!!!
JB

Starting to get hard to separate them now, but I'll vote for The Corbomite Maneuver, as the pacing drags a little at times, and some of the prototype uniforms (Uhura's in particular) look pretty horrible, IMO.

The Naked Time
Balance of Terror
The Devil in the Dark
Errand of Mercy
The City on the Edge of Forever

Pretty tough bunch to pull apart but I'd say that Naked Time has to go in the presence of the other four!
JB

This is cream of the crop but I'll pull Errand of Mercy. I love it, and I know how canonical it is, but so are two of the other three, and this one has too little Enterprise and commits the cardinal sin of no Scotty.

"Devil" is the least of the three, which is no slam on a fine episode.

Balance of Terror
The City on the Edge of Forever
