The least disliked episode of TNG - season three

I'll take off "Sins Of The Father". It's a great episode, and a good one finally showing us something of Klingon life, but it's TOO Klingon-heavy.

Booby Trap
The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
Allegiance
The Most Toys
Sarek
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

I am going to remove The Most Toys. Very fun episode, and I like Saul Rubinek's performance, but I just like all the others better.

Booby Trap
The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
Allegiance
Sarek
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

I'll remove Booby Trap. It has good moments in it but I never loved it. Season 3 has a lots of classics for me though.

The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
Allegiance
Sarek
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

"Allegiance" was OK but somewhat stretched-out and the resolution to which prisoner was really the captor was pretty ho-hum.

The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
Sarek
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

All great episodes, but Sarek has to go because it didn't include the one scene it should have -- Geordi beating the crap outta "Shut Up!" Wesley. :)

I'm ousting Deja Q. That female scientist on the planet just got on every one of my nerves.

The Defector
Yesterday's Enterprise
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

Hate me all you want, but I'm dropping BoBW. It's a cracker ep with a stomach-punch of a cliffhanger, but for actual character drama I'll take The Defector over it.

The Defector
Yesterday's Enterprise

I'm glad it won, though anything from the top 5 would also have been a fine winner.

BOBW is my favourite episode in the entire franchise! HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!

Congrats to Yesterday's Enterprise. It would have been my second choice from this season.

I think that The Best of Both Worlds Part II was the better part of that episode. Part I really didn't have all that much except as a setup to Part II.

I disagree somewhat. Both parts together are top notch television but I felt the climax to Part 2 was slightly disappointing whereas that cliffhanger in Part 1 has never been matched in my opinion. The reason I only somewhat disagree is because there's a hell of a lot of great stuff in Part 2:techman:

Ack, Tin Man was removed early...but Yesterday's Enterprise isn't a bad number 1 choice.

I'd agree that Part 1 is superior. It's got more emotional meat to it, and a greater sense of impending dread. Part 2 isn't quite able to make everything stick together. Some of that's by plot needs: Picard's thoughts about the eve before battle, for example, cry out for resolution that can't be had in Part 2. The Shelly-Riker rivalry is great stuff in Part 1, but it's neutralized by the demands of Part 2. And the climax of Part 2 has that bizarre dull stretch, between the Borg going to sleep and the cube exploding. I know they were trying to go for suspenseful and mysterious but it feels like they somehow found themselves two minutes short and filled the gap with nothing.

This is exactly how I feel about the 2 parter. I still love it to death but the ending was just a bit blah and Part 2 did not exceed Part 1 for me.

'The Best Of Both Worlds', part 1 is one of the best episodes in the entire series, part 2... is not. I actually like to watch only part 1 and move to 'Family' or some other episode.

How's that possible you may wonder? Well, since Picard is not a know-it-all engineer and may not know 100% how the Enterprise's deflector weapon operates, maybe the Borg didn't get enough information from him so adapt in time for the weapon.
So, my own little storyline continues from ”To Be Continued” moment... Riker orders Worf to fire, he does and... the weapon works and the Borg cube is seriously damaged. At that time Riker orders Picard to be transported to the Enterprise. After that... well, maybe they just continue firing and there is not much if anything left of the cube... Picard is ”transformed” back into human like in the end of part 2.

I do not think that Captain Picard needed to be a true engineer to provide them enough information to adapt. He knows enough about Starfleet technology and capabilities, especially for the USS Enterprise, that it would be enough. Was not the plan about the deflector to simply make it a more powerful single use phaser? The Borg just needed to be prepared for a more powerful burst of a weapon that had already been used against them. I do not think it is inconceivable at all.

I am surprised to find that I am the only one who thought that the 2nd part was better. I felt that the scene where they get communication from the fleet at Wolf 359 was terrifying, and the subsequent flight through the battle space was haunting. This was the greatest disaster we had ever seen in Star Trek. Then there was the massive tension as they were chasing the Borg down to Earth. Plus the resolution which was very interesting.
