The Least Disliked Episode 2025 - DISCO Season 2

So, here's the game. The basic idea is your standard elimination game. I'll provide a list of the episodes for each season and you need to eliminate your least favourite or the one you deem the 'worst.' Please provide an EXPLANATION for why you are eliminating your choice and be sure to copy and paste the list with your choice removed. Finally, leave at least 2 eliminations by other posters before you eliminate another episode.

No tactical voting! You cannot remove an episode just because you feel it would threaten your preferred episode's chance to win.
Pretty simple. Enjoy! :bolian:

Season 2

Brother
New Eden
Point of Light
An Obol for Charon
Saints of Imperfection
The Sound of Thunder
Light and Shadows
If Memory Serves
Project Daedalus
The Red Angel
Perpetual Infinity
Through the Valley of Shadows
Such Sweet Sorrow (I)
Such Sweet Sorrow (II)

A tough one as I consider this a very strong season and Discovery's rapid turnaround from whatever the hell season 1 was. Went for the Red Angel just because of course Burnham just assumed she was the angel.

New Eden
Point of Light

If Memory Serves

Such Sweet Sorrow (II)

Eaay season to eliminate episodes, as this is the second worst season in the entire franchise. It was a mess and a disaster. There's really only 1 good episode and some scenes in a couple others that are good. (Frankly, the only really good thing about the season was Pike.)

Starting with "Such Sweet Sorrow II".

It was just ridiculous that the entire crew would be fine with going to the future with Burnham. And the battle scenes were just so difficult to even look at... too frenetic. Just a terrible season finale to a terrible season.

Those battle scenes in the finale really are a disgrace. Their only thought was QUANTITY. Just add more attack ships! More, more, more! The result is unintelligible static and noise. You can only tell what's going on far enough to make it clear that none of it makes any fucking sense.

I'd say this is Trek's second worst season overall (out of FORTY NINE seasons of television that this franchise has produced to date). The only thing that makes it second worst and not dead last (that's ENT S2) is that the first half of the season is reasonably coherent. But the minute they change showrunners, it all just burns to the ground.

I am pleased the worst episode from this dreadful season is still here for me to kill. "Perpetual Infinity"

Out of 930 Star Trek episodes so far, this is the single worst one. This franchise has no lower low than the one-two punch of this and "The Red Angel" (Trek's second worst episode).

I suppose I’ll take out Point of Light. The Klingon material didn’t click for me here.

Such Sweet Sorrow 1 is the beginning of the end of an average end to the Red Angel arc

An Obol for Charon
Saints of Imperfection
The Sound of Thunder
Light and Shadows
If Memory Serves
Project Daedalus
Through the Valley of Shadows

I guess An Obol for Charon is a bit weaker than the others, it is sometimes like a very stretched out Sons of Mogh.

Saints of Imperfection
The Sound of Thunder
Light and Shadows
If Memory Serves
Project Daedalus
Through the Valley of Shadows

18 hours before a single episode was eliminated. Considering pretty much every other season of the franchise was done in less than a day (and with almost twice the number of episodes), this kind of speaks volumes about how DISCO season 2 is considered.

Dimming "Light and Shadows".

Time anomaly, Section 31, etc. DISCO just wants to try to be at their worst, don't they? They were terrible with Section 31 because they didn't know how to use the concept well, and I'm sick of time travel.

I will never forget the first time watching "Light And Shadows", when I was convinced it was actually super clever. If I recall correctly, the Disco-based story has an explicit timeline of like 90 minutes or so.

Meanwhile, in the Burnham story, she travels to Vulcan, finds Spock in the caves there, fights with her family about it, interacts enough with Spock that she decides she must turn him over to Section 31, actually turns him over to Section 31, changes her mind and concludes that was a mistake, engineers and executes his escape, decodes the secret coordinates, and sets off for Talos IV.

The whole time I was watching it, I was like - THIS IS SO FUCKING CLEVER! Clearly, this anomaly has slowed time for the Disco crew, and they're going to reveal at the end that they've only experienced 90 minutes while Burnham has been dealing with WEEKS of events on her side quest. I thought this was brilliant writing, an extremely smart way to balance the fact that they had one plot with a ticking clock and one plot that required weeks of in-show time to plausibly unfold.

And then at the end... no, it was all just happening simultaneously. It wasn't a clever twist, it was embarrassingly hack writing. Burnham did all of that and crossed the galaxy and came to all those huge decisions and big reversals in 90 minutes of in-universe time.

Anyone, enough about that particular piece of trash! I will axe "Project Daedalus." Killing Airiam was a mistake and they also do it in this unconscionably manipulative way.

Saints of Imperfection for some of its truly bizarre concepts, though credit to them for taking such weird things so seriously. That and resurrections are cheap and Culber's is pretty inconsequential beyond a season of angst.

"Embarassingly hack writing" seems to have been the mantra of the DISCO writers.

Taking out "Brother".

Except for introducing Pike and Reno here, this was just a meh episode.

"The Sound Of Thunder" is the weakest of these.

Oh, 1,000 years ago the Kelpiens were the predators and the Ba'ul were the prey? The state of play at that arbitrary point in time must be the natural and correct order of things, so now let's instantaneously revert their society to that prior stage of development with the push of a button, with only a few seconds thought on the implications of that.

At the time, I was sure it was setting up evil Kelpiens.

Taking out "New Eden" for making promises it couldn't keep. It promised a cool religion-focused season, which was very quickly abandoned for time traveling evil computers. Why did they bother saving that church in the end, anyway? And how did they transport a whole church using the Red Angel suit?

If Memory Serves
Through the Valley of Shadows

Damn... "New Eden" was the only good episode of the season.

At least the last two have good scenes.

Taking out "If Memory Serves" because the other has my favorite dialogue of Pike, and him knowing he'll have to live with a horrible fate but still go through with it to help everyone else... truly heroic.

"Through the Valley of Shadows" wins.

I was too late to the party to make If Memory Serves the winner.

I loved seeing the Talosians and Vina again, the homage to The Cage with the recap was perfect for me.
