The Least Disliked Episode 2023: TNG Season 3

Aww man, the hit'n'miss escapade!

The High Ground

There's a lovely action sequence, otherwise it's a dude with big hair trying to get it on with the doctor (with big hair).

(Dang, even starts out with a guy who must love the smell of frequently-worn, two year-old synthetic spandex that retains odors... the acting in the scene was strong all around, even more so for anyone having to endure those outfits... it gets even better when they just have phasers sitting randomly on top of desks, right when needed. Best of all, Worf is shot and Troi runs around screaming "Security! Security!" )

What's left:
The Survivors
Who Watches the Watchers?
The Enemy
The Defector
Deja Q
Yesterday's Enterprise
The Best of Both Worlds (I)

Not The Offrping and Sarek! :wah: Though obviously, that's the fun of this game as everyone is different.

The Hunted is probably the weakest episode left. It's a well-told story, but it doesn't grab me as the others left.

My camptacular quips aside, season 3 is extremely strong, even greater when you read up on the ups and downs for the behind-the-scenes issues. I genuinely dislike only two episodes - and even then, those still have some great scenes. "Sarek" was an above average episode for me (and unlike that early DS9 episode, this one had a decent reason for everyone going nuts), but it's not the topmost-tier and some of it just rubbed me the wrong way.

"Hunted" was decent, I'd put it over "High Ground", but it too didn't grab me much, and the end scene in the main hall with the big blue background -- I need to hunt down my Photoshop install disc and play with masking since that blue is begging to be replaced ( :shifty:  ) ...

This is getting tough...of course it was already getting tough about a dozen episodes ago. Kind of a nice problem to have, though, when the season was so strong it's hard to find reasons to dislike anything! I'll remove "The Enemy" on the grounds that it makes no particular sense that Romulans and Klingons should be so closely genetically related -- but that if they were, I always felt Picard probably actually would have the authority to order Worf to contribute. And should have done so, given the stakes.

It's almost dartboard time in picking a random one because these are all excellent for different reasons.

I'll take out "Who Watches The Watchers" because my wife really does not like this one. (I'm running out of bad things to say about the remainders.)

This is REALLY tough.

I'm actually going to take out "The Bedt of Both Worlds", only because the Borg have been used too much in the franchise. NOT this episode's fault, because until DS9's "CALL TO ARMS", this was the best season finale in the franchise.

I just love the intrigue of "The Defector" more, and "Yesterday's Enterprise" is a classic.

The Defector
Yesterday's Enterprise

I will crown Yesterday's Enterprise as the winner. It's my favourite episode of TNG, with such a bleak alternate timeline with Starfleet losing the war with the Klingons, and getting to see the crew of the displaced ENT-C was awesome too.

The involvement of Yar and Guinan makes the whole thing epic too.

"Let history never forget the name Enterprise!"

Daaaaammmnnnnn I feel like all I do is knife everyone's favorites (there was that one year I practically sent the Voyager forum into mourning with my rapid axing of "Counterpoint"), and TBH I've been a bit burned out on BOBW in recent years, but even I would never think to touch it in a least disliked game! Ruthless. :bolian:

Love the finalists, though. "Yesterday's Enterprise" is my fav TNG and I think "The Defector" is incredible.

I guess resisting my ruthless side was...

Futile.
