The least disliked episode 2021 - TNG Season Six

"Frame of Mind", because Riker often yells at one point or another in the story:
examples:

Ethics:
"Riker: I DON'T WANT TO HELP WORF KILL HIMSELF!!!!
Picard: yes, I understand but could you say it a little louder because I am about two meters away..."

Devil's Due:
"Riker: WE'RE NOT IMPRESSED BY YOUR MAGIC!!!
Devil woman: I'll let you know on a little secret... The devil is not deaf"

But an entire episode of him yelling that's just more than I can stand.

What's left:

Realm of Fear
Relics
Chain of Command I
Chain of Command II
Face of the Enemy
Tapestry
Starship Mine

Second Chances
Timescape

The Chase:

Alien Woman: Hi, I am here to tell you that natural selection is bunk. Everything is prearranged so that evolution will eventually produce a humanoid species. Darwin is wrong, ID is right.

Time's Arrow:

Picard: Can't you find another source of food?
Alien phase-shifting feeding on human aura vampire (APSFOHAV): Nope, there is no substitute.
Picard: So your only source of food comes from people from another planet that you go to with a time-traveling device.
APSFOHAV: Yup, that's right!
Picard: But how were you able to feed yourself BEFORE inventing interstellar time-travel?
APSFOHAV: We couldn't.
Picard: But what? How? How the hell did it start?
APSFOHAV: I don't know.... You're not supposed to ask that.
Picard: What? How?????
APSFOHAV: You're asking too many questions!!!

......

Riker: Let's bomb these aliens out of existence!!
Troi: Why?
Riker: Because they're attacking and killing humans!!!
Troi: Aren't we supposed to try to talk to them before?
Riker: What gave you that Idea?
Troi: Isn't what we would have done with the Christallyine entity?
Riker: Yes, it was.
Troi: So why not now?
Riker: Because this was then and this is now!!! Plus there is a chance that I'll get Picard before he can return to the ship! Now go to your room and sense something...

Strong episodes left. Hard to pick. I'll take "Timescape" out. Time episodes can be annoying.

Realm of Fear
Relics
Chain of Command I
Chain of Command II
Face of the Enemy
Tapestry
Starship Mine
Second Chances

Relics because the Scotty plot takes time away from the FAR more interesting Dyson sphere B story. I also didn't like Scotty's attitude, he was annoying and entitled and basically bitched that people didn't kiss the ground he walked on.

Realm of Fear
Chain of Command I
Chain of Command II
Face of the Enemy
Tapestry
Starship Mine
Second Chances

It's really difficult right now, but I'm gonna remove Tapestry, yes it is one of the better (or in my view, acceptable) Q episodes, but it's imho not as good as the other episodes still on the list.

What's Left:
Realm of Fear
Chain of Command I
Chain of Command II
Face of the Enemy
Starship Mine
Second Chances

"Face of the Enemy", because Deanna was not very convincing. Plus the Romulan captain was a bit too argumentative. If the Tal Shiar (sp?) was so powerful and vindictive, you'd think she would have been more submissive...

As an example: Towards the end of his dictatorship, Stalin would send people to the gulag for having sweaty palms!

What's Left:
Realm of Fear
Chain of Command I
Chain of Command II

Starship Mine
Second Chances

Chain of Command II because I want to slap Riker, he acted like an unprofessional douchebag. The entire crew (except Data) should be ashamed of how they acted when Jellico thanked them and said goodbye. If that crew is the best starfleet has to offer it's no surprise most admirals are corrupt and/or assholes.

Realm of Fear
Chain of Command I
Starship Mine
Second Chances

The absurdity of sending Worf, Picard and Crusher on a covert special forces op has always brought the CoC two-parter down IMO. So CoC I is relieved.

Tapestry:
Picard: I'd rather be dead than be Lieutenant Junior Grad at SIXTY!!!
Q: Can't you work your way up from there? Wouldn't that be a challenge to you?
Picard: And forgo my captain privileges? Are you kidding? I'd rather be dead I am telling you! Only a loser is still Lieutenant at Sixty and I won't be one of them.
Q: What about the members of your crew that will never make it to the higher rank. Are they losers?
Picard: That's why I hate you. You keep asking these questions!!!! Go way!!! and let me kill myself!!!

Sorry...but to me the idea IS bad. Why would you make a Western Episode when your show is set on a space ship in the future. I really don't like it when Star Trek does those genre shifts.

Good point. And I'm still struggling to find a way to make it work outside of a mind meddle the way Kirk had endured and at least he violated space for a reason nobody's told to begin with and, go figure, he loves 500 year old western shtick the same way some of us dig Shakespeare (but not me, yucketh... ) TNG's overuse of the holodeck was so hit or miss... part of me still wants to like it - partly because of this:

I wish she did more of those comparisons, though not too many comparisons are possible... I forgot about the forced situational humor with Picard's magic flute too...

Brent Spiner is still amazing. But he alone can't rescue the episode.

I've no fear in removing Starship Mine. It's Picard being John McClane, in space, which might have been easier to get away with in season 1 -- but this is season 6 and it'd be more fun to see Riker do this shtick anyhow. Then again, he'd just try to bang half the terrorists before blowing them up anyway. For an action-based story, the farting frog symphony does no favors either. It's a mixture of genres that just doesn't coelesce.

Realm of Fear won? Neat! Go Barclay!

Yeah the episode has some unfortunate implications. Like how the whole episode pretty much paints blue shirt!Picard as inferior, and with how much disdain Riker and Troi treat him when he approaches them in Ten Forward.

As said upthread, this season and season seven seem populated with episodes in which some contrived situation allows the cast to do things other than be crew members on a starship exploring the galaxy.

Picard Neckpinching future Tuvok has some nice irony to it....

Regarding "Tapestry"...

I don't think Riker and Troi were being disdainful of Lt. Picard. He asked for an honest, frank evaluation of his career. It seemed clear that this version of Picard did not fully embrace his life... just meandered about aimlessly. THAT was why he hated this new Picard. The Jean-Luc Picard we all know is confident, assertive, and knows what he wants and goes for it. Lt. Picard in this timeline was NONE of that. I don't think the episode sends the wrong message at all, and does not make Picard's character seem worse. In fact, I think it puts it in more focus.

Thanks everyone I was entertained and got laughs out of comments such as these.

trade route tax negotiation sleep inducing star wars prequel fun,

This is how I feel about A Quality of Life and the plight of Exocomps.

Lessons", because if Romeo and Juliet were Picard and whatshername they wouldn't have needed to kill themselves they would have died of boredom!!!

l like the episode largely for the underrated Wendy Hughes but I can see where one would find this boring.

It should be on YouTube...Jonathan Frakes as Commander Riker yells things at people.
