The Last Jedi - Actually Widely Hated?

Right. Solo happened. Cue the “but it’s really Last Jedi’s fault” whining.

<Narrator: It wasn’t.>

Where’s the proof in that? Because the GoT guys are doing their stuff first? LFL is still figuring things out regarding scheduling. If they choose to not make the RJ trilogy, oh well. But until we get some real news to the contrary, just because you don’t want something doesn’t make it out to not be happening.

<Narrator: They weren’t.>
Real news to the contrary? WTF you talking about. They knew Affleck wasn't Batman for a year before they announced it. They could not say that obviously because JL was still set to come out and him saying that he was no longer Batman would hurt that film (a film which had enough PR issues so it didn't ultimately matter). SW is taking a break from films according the schedule they announced with the D & W films coming out in three years. If they actually announced that RJ was no longer doing his films, it would take the headlines away from the publicity (or nightmare, depending of how you look at it) of TRoS. It's okay to have an opinion, it's not okay to be so deliberately naive just because you like that a corporate conglomerate can stampe the SW brand on whatever they want

I'm not sure I'm the one being naive in this thread.

Yes, like The Star Wars Holiday Special, The Droids and Ewoks cartoons, The two Ewok movies, The Clone Wars movie..... Yes, this is a totally new phenomenon that GL would never have sanctioned.... lol

The absence of evidence is not evidence.

naive disney fan here

If we’re all naive here, produce a real source then. Not your or others’ speculation.

The majority of us aren’t getting overly excited about films that aren’t in preproduction. But we’re also putting the only word we have on the film at face value until we hear otherwise. Is it possible that the RJ trilogy will end up in development he’ll and never be produced? Absolutely. But until we have reason to believe the movies aren’t happening, we’re not going to be overly freaked out by idle internet speculation. Because at the moment, that’s all you’ve got.

Exactly. The evidence is not sufficient to conclude one way or the other. And no reckless speculation will change that,.

Let me get this straight. Luke was able to win in the original films by having faith in his friends and family.. including his father.. yet Kathleen Kennedy would have me believe that he would even think of striking his nephew while he was sleeping?

Might want to look under the hood.

Luke's faith in his father wasn't blind. Luke said that he had felt the good in him.

The corollary of that is that, if Luke had not felt that there was any good left inside Vader, he would not have put it all on the line and surrendered himself to him and the Emperor with the intention of turning his father back to the good side.

When Luke was in Ben's tent with his lightsaber drawn, Luke was, at the very least, having doubts as to whether there was any good left in his nephew. Luke's behavior makes total sense with respect to the character as established in the OT.

The reason they aren't talking about the Rian Johnson trilogy is because it is so far out that they probably haven't made enough progress on it for it there to be anything they are comfortable talking about.
They also probably don't want to distract from the stuff that is coming out before it. It's the same reason why Marvel doesn't start talking about the next phase of the MCU until the current one is over, or almost over.
If it really wasn't going to happen the first person they would tell is Rian Johnson, there is absolutely no fucking way in hell they would lie to him. He needs to know what kind of work he is going to be getting, and when he will or won't be free for new stuff. Honestly, I could potentially see a lawsuit coming out of the situation if they really were lying to him about him having job when they have no intention of actually going through with it. If really wasn't going to happen and he knew it, then I would expect him to just stop talking about it, not lie and act like it was still happening.. They'd also either just make announcement now, or if they were afraid it would distract from The Rise of Skywalker, then they'd just not talk about until after TRoS was out and once it was then make the announcement. Either way no one is going to lie about it, because all that is going to do is piss people off, and that is the absolutely last thing anybody is going to want.

yes, that's what I said.. telling us he is not doing his trilogy would grab more headlines than the garbage fire that is episode 9

As someone else has suggested, Disney is not concerned about the headlines of TRoS being outdone three months prior to its release. Also, no, such news wouldn’t. It might dominate the geek news cycle for a week or two but then most reasonable people will move on.

Tried rewatching TLJ last night.
Forgot how relatively funny in a pantomime way that opening is.
Problem is it’s also not a great way to open a Star Wars film...it shouldn’t spoof itself (not to mention its way more 20th century in its language. Kind of takes you out.) that’s what Spaceballs and suchlike are for. It’s also on the joke for way too long, and sets the First Order up as incompetent buffoons who nonetheless are solidly kicking the heroes arses.

Will still attempt a rewatch, as TFA improved a little for me on second viewing.

I mean Hux is like a panto villain, and Ade Edmonson (for some reason I thought he was only in solo) is kind of known for comedy.
