The Kelvin TOS Crew's fate vs. Prime characters' fate

We all know where the TOS crew end up thanks to the movies and TNG, should the Kelvin crew's journey continue on a similar path, or when they come back (which they will... someday... perhaps?) would you l;ike to see their stories take a different turn, post 5YM?

The best example of this is novels, comics and even fan media have shown different versions of post-Undiscovered Country stories. I'd like our friends to stay in Starfleet, but maybe on different ships?

Perhaps Kirk got another command with another crew, maybe Spock is trying to initiate reunification over a century earlier, influenced by his elder self.

I really wish Star Trek Into Oblivion was made... Shatner and Nimoy as flashforward Kelvin Kirk and Spock. A happy ending for the BFFs which they never got in Prime. And if it was up to me, that flashforward would be Kirk and Spock overseeing the successful evacuation of Romulus in 2387, bringing everything full circle.

I think that universe should have differences but I'm also of the mindset that if they did a movie or show with the six remaining cast members it's okay if the characters are just on the Enterprise. They could just be off having an adventure and there doesn't have to be mention that the characters were on different ships. People do the same job for decades in real life. That said, if they only came back in book or comic form then if they wanted to split the characters up or have multi thread stories absolutely. I've said before but one thing I'd love to see is these characters have families. I want Uhura and Spock to have a kid and Kirk to have a daughter from one of his many flings and those kids come and live on the Enterprise. Spock forced to go through what his father did really appeals to me. Sulu should have got to snog his husband at Yorktown. In the Captain Sulu show of my dreams they could interstellar phone chat every so often.
I also think on the larger scale it would be fun to play around with the different nations. Maybe if the Federation helped fix the Romulan star the Feds and Romulans could become friends instead of Feds and Klingons (although I guess I'm assuming the star blowing up was a natural thing when it's probably more likely it wasn't.)

I wanted it to. I even commission @gazomg to bring to life my vision of older k&s on the bridge!

I would love for some things to remain the same but also its a different universe so anything can happen.
  • I know for me, I want Kirk to a) if he and Marcus did get together in the Kelvinverse and had David, that Kirk became the father david needed and was part of his life and b) he either left Starfleet after the 5YM to be a family man or became Chief of Starfleet Ops like he did in the Prime timeline so he can stay in starfleet.
  • I would love to see Hikaru Sulu become Captain of the Excelsior alot sooner than he did in the 2280s of the Prime universe especially after spending a decade under Captain Kirk's command. He could be on the fast track for Captain.
  • Like the F. King Daniel, I would love to see Kirk and Spock oversee the Evacuation of Romulus granted Kirk and Spock would be over 150 years old at that point.
  • McCoy could either stay in Starfleet or Resign like he did in PT.
  • Uhura and Spock get married and have a daughter named Amanda.
  • Chekov is a sore spot cause I don't want him to die off cause of Anton's death but also I would like for the character to have a long career.
  • Scotty gets exonerated and finds Admiral Archer's beagle.

I see him becoming the Commodore of Yorktown Base, starting a family and occasionally going on a mission. However, he loves and dotes on Carol and his son in a way he always wished his dad had.

So a Weekend at Bernie's kind of thing?

I always thought McCoy had more chemistry and flirted more with Marcus than Kirk did during Into Darkness, I would have liked it if they flipped expectations and had those two pair up instead.

  • Due to transwarp beaming taking off and largely replacing starships, Kirk fills the void of no longer captaining the Ent-A or any other starship by marrying Carol Marcus and having David. Later, Kirk marries Antonia - after Carol ends up in stasis (see below) – and Antonia helps Kirk raise David. As Kirk stays close to Earth, they also have a daughter together. Kirk does become ambassador to the Klingon Empire, but is more willing in this universe.
  • Carol continues with the Genesis Project and works to prevent Starfleet from weaponizing it, taking down Section 31 in the process. She ends up in stasis with alongside Khan (due to Section 31, something Khan's blood couldn't cure) and unwillingly becomes his bride when they both wake up, presumably during the Kelvinverse TNG era.
  • Uhura marries Spock in a Vulcan ceremony and has children with him, named after Spock’s & Uhura’s parents. Uhura leaves the Ent-A to command the USS Leondegrance. And afterwards heads Starfleet Intelligence i.e. not Section 31.
  • Spock briefly captains the Ent-A, gets promoted to Admiral and becomes Chancellor at Starfleet Academy. Later on, Spock officially becomes ambassador to Romulus, and has a distant relationship with T’Pring, who succeeded Sarek as Federation ambassador.
  • Bones reunites with his daughters and ex-wife. Post Ent-A, Bones joins the USS Hopeship under the captaincy of M’Benga, where Christine Chapel also serves with her husband Roger Korby in the Kelvinverse.
  • Scotty ends up with the Kelvinverse version of Mira Romaine. He teaches at Starfleet Academy’s satellite campuses on Yorktown Station and Memory Alpha and is responsible for the next generation of the Starfleet Corps of Engineers.
  • Sulu succeeds Spock as captain of the Ent-A. Afterwards, he becomes Admiral and heads Starfleet Command.
  • While captain of the Reliant, Chekov ended up in an alternate universe while using the transporter due to an ion storm - like in “Mirror, Mirror”, but a gender swapped Kelvinverse instead that’s also a gooder(?) version of the Kelvin timeline - and switched places with female Captain Chekov from that universe.
  • The Kelvin TOS crew sees off the maiden voyage of the Ent-B, with Demora Sulu commanding the Ent-B with David, Scotty’s nephew Peter, one of Bones’s daughters, and one of Spock & Uhura’s children serving under her. The next generation, if you will.
I can see Spock and Uhura adopting Saavik

In my head, Spock never meets Saavik or Valeris in the Kelvinverse; Saavik and Valeris end up under the influence of Sybok and join him on his journey to Sha Ka Ree, and manage to recruit David along the way to join them, as part of David’s teenage rebellious phase. That’s how David ends up with Saavik in this universe.

I always thought McCoy had more chemistry and flirted more with Marcus than Kirk did during Into Darkness, I would have liked it if they flipped expectations and had those two pair up instead.

That’s fair.

Or captain of Yorktown's answer to Deep Space Nine's Defiant - a significant ship attached to the base for short trips, defense, etc

Due to transwarp beaming taking off and largely replacing starships

No.

Lovely.

For awhile I thought, while watching ST II that David would take Kirks’s place with the old crew handing things off. I think that hand-off could actually happen if the 09’ movies last.

David was more interested in science than being a captain. I suppose they could've tried to go a different direction by portraying Federation civilian-Starfleet cooperation, with civilians taking the lead, but would that have been popular enough?

Even if you think transwarp beaming is a stupid concept, if there are expectations for the movies to be Marvel level, then continuity among other things will be needed. And so far, the only plot point that are continued are:

- Uhura-Spock romance
- Kirk reflecting on his dad
- Pike’s mentorship of Kirk
- Kirk’s evolution as a captain
- Scotty’s transwarp beaming taken by Starfleet and Section 31
- Bones - maybe - trying to rebuild his love life

That’s’ really it. That’s really thin, regardless if they ever develop an overarching Thanos-level arc or not for the Kelvinverse.

So, Starfleet using Scotty’s transwarp beaming after what Khan did makes sense as a continuing plot. And it having an impact on starship development also makes sense.

Besides, if they want to say transwarp beaming devices are burned out after a single 1000 lightyear jump, limiting its usage and allows starships to still be around to explore, they can do that.

But if you really want to ignore that, fine.

You misunderstand. I don't want it to replace ships. I want it to be a tool they can use when necessary, but I want there to be an in-universe reason why they don't always use it.

I want starships to continue to be useful.

I guess you could think of it the same way we have trains, boats, cars, buses, planes, helicopters, etc, but so far, flying machines have not replaced all land and sea vehicles. Stuff is shipped more slowly even though it could be moved faster.

Transwarp beaming too energy hungry for more than 3 people and unstable with too many uses for any one person. An emergency tool only. Problem solved. You’re welcome.
Bingo.

SCOTT: ... you're still talking about beaming aboard the Enterprise while she's traveling faster-than-light, without a proper receiving pattern. ... The notion of transwarp beaming is like, trying to hit a bullet with a smaller bullet whilst wearing a blindfold, riding a horse. What's that?
SPOCK PRIME: Your equation for achieving transwarp beaming.
SCOTT: (mumbles something) Imagine that. It never occurred to me to think of space as the thing that was moving.

oldSpock providing to nuScotty the equation Prime'Scotty would 'later' develop changed it from theoretical-but-impossible to theoretically-possible, but it was still imprecise and highly dangerous for two people at any distance. Even with much refinement, it would be far too limited in capability, far too inefficient in power use, far too risky to serve as any kind of practical replacement for starships capable of transporting hundreds of people and millions of tons of supplies and equipment over great distances in comfort, safety and relative ease.
