Much MORE likely is the 1973 Yom Kippur War--in which Sadat labeled a Jihad--influenced Kandel.

I suspected it might be something like that, but I wasn't sure if jihadist rhetoric was a major thing in Mideast affairs prior to the Iranian Revolution. (And if it only came from Sadat, it would've been just rhetoric, since he wasn't a member of the ulama (clergy) and thus had no authority to declare jihad.)


I have green memories.

Where did this term originate??? I have never found this out.

My best guess is that it's a variant on "in memory yet green," which apparently means memory that remains fresh and vivid (and positive?) even after a long time.
