Re: It's not Star Trek.

It is Star Trek back to its 23rd Century roots...

Cadet to Captain? Sure from the same Starfleet in which a guy steals a ship, disables another, destorys said ship but... you saved the planet so here is another one.

Hokey Timelines? More hokey than killing a main character then spending two movies resurrecting him? I mean the guy was dead!

TOS Kirk gets in a fist fight and loses his shirt in just about every episode. Yet he always managed to win that fight with the bizarre two handed chop manuver. The reason there weren't more space fights was lack of SFX tech and production $$$. They have both now.

You get go-go-go action with a mindwarping alternate reality/altered reality debate.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

How many more people are going to sign up to TREK BBS to tell us its not STAR TREK ...This is STAR TREK because fans don't make canon, Paramount does.

So I think you mean to say I don't like this version of Trek not this is not Star Trek because I own it

Re: It's not Star Trek.

^Don't look now but Bonzie just made him first officer admin.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Who are all these self styled authorities on what is and isn't Star Trek that keep popping up? Go back to your TOS VHS collection, believe it or not Paramount didn't come around to your house and take them away, they still exist to be watched and enjoyed.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

It's a prime ribeye of a story. It's the original cowboys in outer space. And that's no bull.

I do agree with you on that! It is indeed!
It's just not what I call 'Star Trek'.

I'm not seeing red either - I sure enjoyed seeing plenty of green!
I'm sorry - it's NOT Star Trek. Paramount wants to make something new for mass consumption and 'Burger King' cups or whatever, and slap a 'Star Trek' label on it. Fine. It is good stuff. But no. It isn't Star Trek.

Some people bitch about how they want a fast-paced movie that's all action sequences strung together. That's what this is. I liked it for that. But it isn't Star Trek. Most people want anything so long as it's action sequences strung together. Brainless cows waiting to be fed. "Feed me I want non-stop action!"
I myself enjoy that once in awhile. But not at any cost. They have taken away Star Trek and made it into that. I would rather have no Star Trek at all than have this.

At any rate, they could have made the same movie and slapped some other franchise label on it. Christ - with a few character renames and making Vulcan the Moon instead, (where there was a human colony), they could have called it the newest 'Terminator' movie. Skynet is in orbit around a planet they want to suck into a Black Hole. They could have slapped "Total Recall 2" onto it. They could have slapped "Aliens vs Pred3" onto it and moved the action into some outer systems also. Those predators want to destroy Earth for some idiotic reason in the far future when our technology almost equals their own.

It isn't Star Trek, it feels only vaguely like Star Trek, and that's all there is to it. I will probably go and see it again, because it's a fun action movie, but Star Trek is different from this. I'm not buying this flick to add to my collection of Star Trek. Because it isn't Star Trek.
And not you, and not Paramount is changing my mind on that.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

I know you're a troll, and I don't mind the name calling of senseless cows and all to me.

But my wife and daughter enjoyed the movie as well. You called them names, and I don't quite appreciate that.

You do realize that in the grand scheme of things, this is only your opinion?

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Actually, one or two TNG movies were not ILM, IIRC. (just thought I'd point it out in a calm fashion before someone else bursts a blood vessel over it)

TMP, TFF, Insurrection, and Nemesis were non-ILM. The ILM movies clearly had superior FX.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

You're welcome to consider it not Star Trek. The rest of us will enjoy it as Star Trek though. :)

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Wait... you agree it is "Cowboys in Outer Space", But NOT Star Trek? A show that was originally pitched as "Wagon Train to the Stars"?

Re: It's not Star Trek.

I dunno.....I saw the movie yesterday (and loved it, by the way), and I clearly saw the words "Star Trek" appear onscreen.

So it must be.
