Sorry, but it's NOT Star Trek.

I liked it. It was a good story/adventure movie...

But it's NOT Star Trek. They're reinventing it into something else. They may call it Star Trek, but it isn't - Star Trek isn't go-go-go-go action non-stop.

There were some good Trek elements in it, but it isn't Star Trek, and that sure as hell isn't Kirk, and that sure as hell isn't Spock. We've had their mythology. You can't make more of it using different actors. It doesn't work.
If you want to make a cool Star Trek movie, then invent new characters, or else make it a movie from the "Enterprise" series. You want full action? Make it some other movie. Star Trek is capital ships, not the frikken Millenium Falcon retooled. Whatever happened to "Secret of Vulcan Fury"? THAT would be a whole load better to bring to the big screen rather than the tripe of "Clone Wars".
ILM is always making bolts. That isn't phasers. They keep trying to change Star Trek into Star Wars. They shouldn't handle the animation for any Star Trek ever again.
Non-stop action is more like Terminator than Star Trek.

In short, what they are doing is taking away the distinctness of Star Trek, and turning it into every other franchise. COPYING their success.

If that brings them $$$$ from the senseless cows that eat anything you put in front of them.......well....

Re: It's not Star Trek.

This will end well.

Oh, and yes, it IS Star Trek. The owners of the property get to decide that, not you or any other member of the audience. Sorry to break it to you.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Its ok, you're allowed to not have any idea what you are talking about ;)

BTW, ILM has been doing effects for every Star Trek movie since TMP.

ITS ALTERNATE UNIVERSE its allowed to be completely different.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Actually, one or two TNG movies were not ILM, IIRC. (just thought I'd point it out in a calm fashion before someone else bursts a blood vessel over it)

hmm, i figured any film with visual effects somehow had ILM attached to it:angel:

Re: It's not Star Trek.

You missed where I said "They may call it Star Trek, but it isn't..."

If you want to call it an alternate universe where reality is really skewed, ya I'd agree with you on that one...
It's their attempt at rebooting the franchise, and for me it failed to BE Star Trek - but it did succeed in re-booting - because I will go and see these movies. Green SLAVE girls in underwear. Space battles. What, would you rather go see 'ghosts of GF past"???

I know what I'm talking about and if anyone thinks I don't, they can "go climb a tree".
If it's Star Trek for you, fine. Go enjoy it. But don't think for one second you're changing my mind about it.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

It's Star Trek in name, but yeah, the formula is different than before. Is this all that surprising considering the producers? Things change.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

Oh hey, what do you know, it IS Star Trek. Imagine that.

I love these people who are so upset Trek is popular.

Re: It's not Star Trek.

I think it's Star Trek. I've been chewing my cud for a while on this one, and even though I'm rather bull headed, I think it's udderly silly to decide that this isn't Star Trek but the previous movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT were. Later Kirk was a total heifer. He had as much in common with TOS Kirk as a longhorn with a milk cow. Whether the stories are in one imaginary timeline or another doesn't make a cow paddie of difference. I know some fans are seeing red, but sometimes it's time to put a worn out story arc to pasture. It had gotten too cheesy. This new film is the creme de la creme of Star Trek. It's a prime ribeye of a story. It's the original cowboys in outer space. And that's no bull.
