The IT Crowd Series 5 start date?

Every time someone asks Graham Linehan this question on Twitter, he says "not for a while, but it is going to happen."

I reckon with Chris O'Dowd off making films and starring in BBC Dramas, and Richard Ayoade off directing films it must be difficult to get them together to film another series.

^ Not as far as I'm aware. It seems as though this show (and probably others) aren't on a fixed schedule with the new run starting at the same time of year as the last one. Linehan is the sole writer, and he says it's a long process for him. And as Bob says, at least two of the main cast are busy with other projects.

Apparently Graham Linehan has said series 5 will be the last series.

The writer told Chortle that he hopes to write the fifth series this year and plans to finish it. In an interview he said the fifth series would be a chance to say farewell to the characters and the fans, but did not want to rush the final product.
Linehan’s comedy, which stars Chris O’Dowd, Richard Ayoade and Katherine Parkinson as an IT support team ignored by their company, is one of C4’s most successful sitcoms.

Last series? That would suck. :( It's bad enough only having 6 episodes per season. I want more of it! The only way they could make it up to me is to make Katherine Parkinson go brunette again like in season 2. :D

^ Today. Linehan said "End of year, probably" when asked on Twitter when it would start.

And five series might not seem like a lot, but it's more than Linehan usually does!

I'm not sure I want to watch it if I'm honest. After seeing O'Dowd do full frontal nudity in The Crimson Petal and the White I'm not sure I can look at Roy in the same way again

And if it had been Katherine Parkinson doing full frontal nudity, I'd be perfectly able to look at Jen in the same way... Odd that.

That's good. 30 episodes isn't a bad run.

I wonder what show he will try and tackle next.

I agree with you. None have his other shows have lasted to five series.
He dose write it all himself not like the dreadful 'Life of Riley' and worse 'My Family' which are vomited out on a minute by minute basis by an army of brain dead script machines.

I am sure he will come up with another great show in due course.

Ok my friends started me on I T crowd im hooked but have always wondered why the heck do they only do 6 episodes a season????? can someone explain that? Why cant they do 22 like American tv. I love this show and have always wondered that. Red Dwarf was the same way.

Things are getting worse.

The new model is to make longer episodes and shorter seasons.

Which is why the last seasons of red Dwarf was only three episodes long.

Because British comedies typically don't have a writing staff, they're written by one or two people and they don't have the time to write 22 episodes per year on their own. Also, Linehan confirmed that there wont be a fifth season and instead there will be a special extended episode to serve as a finale, with the possibility of feature film in the future, so the show is pretty much over.

If you haven't seen it yet, try Linehan's other famous show (which he wrote with Arthur Mathews), Father Ted. It's the definitive literary work about Irish culture.
