The Interpretation of Dreams Thread™!

I have had this dream 3 times this year...

I am watching the TV waiting for the lottery numbers...I win and then before me is a table full of money???

I never can remember the stupid numbers though when I wake up!!!

A dream I had a couple of nights ago. I'm in this multi-story computer lab with all of this weird red art deco furniture from the 70's. On the bottom floor, there are a lot of older people that I know.
Anyway, I am trying to stop aliens from running some sort of program that would turn people into like the Borg, minus all of the hardware. I am running from room to room working on trying to crack the alien's computer system, or at least disable the computers so that they won't be able to enact their plan. While I am running from office to office, I am being pursued by alien soldiers who carry reverse-ageing guns. If I were to get shot, I would cease to exist, because a shot would "unage" me too much.

So, there I am, in this computer lab, running from office to office, trying to hide and still shut down the alien computers. Whenever I am on the ground floor, I get the older people to run interference for me, and they all get "unaged" when they get shot by the aliens. But, as they are older, they go from being in their 60's/70's to being in their late 20's/early 30's.

Finally, I give up. I confront the aliens and surrender to them. I am taken to their leader, and we start talking. As the alien leader is putting the controller thing on my arm, I realize that if only I had been able to remember basic UNIX commands, I would have been able to thwart the aliens.

Alright, now can anyone make sense of that one???

^^^ I like sci-fi dreams. ;) The main theme in your dream, it appears, was good-versus-evil. I don't know what the computer "Borg" program, computers, or the aliens specifically represented, only that there was a power struggle between you and them. On the other hand, maybe the dream had no good-versus-evil theme, but rather that of competition to see who would triumph. In the end, you were disappointed because you lacked the necessary skills or knowledge to defeat the enemy (or your opponents). Were you at some point feeling inadequate or insecure about something? Maybe that's what the subconscious was telling you.

I think the dream is indirectly indicating that luck is a dominant feature of your thinking. Perhaps you tend to rely mostly on luck for good things to happen in your life?

Emotional themes:
In the dream, you are perceiving a risk/threat against older people whom you know. This motivates you to take on the responsibility of being their protector.

But the threat is too great and you fail. At the end of the dream you have lost confidence in yourself because you couldn't remember what you should have remembered that would have led to a different outcome.

Interpretation:
The unaging weapon, the ages of yourself and the people in the dream, and the alien plan coming to fruition do create a sense of time marching boldly forward, and being unstoppable.

I think the dream could be you knowing that somebody in your life is (or is going to become) dependent on you, or reliant on you to protect them. You are feeling anxiety over the ensuing responsibility, and are concerned as to whether you're capable of taking that on.

Maybe an older family member becoming less independent, or a child growing up and wanting to do teenage things?

I am visiting my sister in London (she doesn't actually live there). She has been taking me sightseeing but only to places she wants to go. I keep telling her places I want to see but she just says 'No, you wouldn't enjoy that".

We are waiting for a bus. Eventually it comes. She gets on straight away and sits down. A few other people get on and I get on but I have no idea where we are meant to be going or what ticket to buy. I try to ask my sister but she is reading a book and doesn't answer.

More people get on and the bus driver tells me I have to get off because the bus has as much people as ut is allowed to carry. I get off and the bus drives away with my sister on it.

I begin walking down the road. I see the William Morris Gallery. I go in and spend a couiple of hours looking around. I am really enjoy myself but I realise it is very late. I find a small room with a bed in it and I go to sleep in the gallery.

The next day I leave the museum and I meet a man who looks like he is straight out of a horror movie. We start to chat and I begin to like him despite his appearance. He asks me to help him and I say OK. I then notice he is carry four human heads. He hands me two of them. We walk down the road carrying the heads. No one seem to take any notice of us. We come to a little park and I help him bury the heads. People walk by while we are doing this and they seem to approve of what we are doing.

The man thanks me and hands me a card. He tells me if I use it on a bus the bus will take me to wherever I would like to go but each trip would be a surprise. I thank the man for this gift.

I get on a bus and it takes me to the Tate Museum of Modern Art. I spend time looking at Doris Salcedo's Shibboleth (The Crack). I take many photos of it and also many photos of the way people react to it. Then I go and look at the rest of the Gallery. At the end of the day I find a bed in a small room and I go to sleep.

The next day I get on a bus and it takes me to Paris where I bump into my best friend. I go sightseeing with her but then she has to leave and I go to sleep on the riverbank.

The next day I get on a bus and I end up at the Colosseum in Rome where I feed, and make friends, with the cats. Coming out of the Colosseum I see my brother but he doesn't see me so I go back into the Colosseum to avoid him. I end up sleeping there surrounded by cats.

I keep using the card to take me around the world where I make new friends (usually they are very strange), avoid my family and bump into old friends.

Edited to add - Right though the dream my sisters keep trying to phone me on my mobile. At first I amswer their calls and tell them where i am but later I ignore their calls. I do phone my sons up each day to tell them what I am doing and to see how they are managing at home.

I had one of those dreams that makes me wonder why I bother living.

3 things happened and it has me thinking...

I was in a grocery store shopping and I was looking for something...I tried asking for help but it was like I wasn't even there...like they couldn't see or hear me.

Later on I am in line and these girls behind me are laughing and making mocking sounds at me being mean...I try to speak but nothing comes out but awful noises.

I try to pay for my stuff, I can't speak...the girls behind me are laughing and the cashier doesn't even see me...I am sweating and I wake up in this panic feeling.

:(

Be thankful it was only a dream. On the other hand, if these sort of things happen in real life, you can't let them get to you. Maybe your subconscious is seeking acknowledgement and recognition and wanting you to be more assertive? It's always good to engage in activities that build confidence and self-expression, e.g., a dance or art class..

People laughing at me behind my back and making fun of me has happened in the past...and I have been ignored by people who's help I need too...the dream was like amplified version of those type of things...plus feeling helpless.

Don't let these types of behaviors get you down. They're a reflection on them, not you. I really think you have to build more confidence and assertiveness, so you can feel good about yourself and deal with difficult people.

This was an interesting one. I had this dream that I moved in with this homeless family that was now living in an abandoned former car dealership. We used newspaper to cover up the floor-to-ceiling windows in the showroom so we could have some privacy and so no one could see us working by candlelight at night because there was no electricity. To top it off, it was in the middle of winter, and heavy snowstorms left us trapped in the showroom because the lot was no longer being plowed...

I have no idea. I did wake up right afterward and remember that I had to take my car back to the dealer this morning, so maybe that's why it was on my mind.

Hmm, interesting indeed. I'm not sure what those symbols specifically represented in your dream. A car dealership is a place of transaction, and this was abandoned, so it could as well have been an abandoned warehouse or building. What's clear is that you used it as a refuge or a shelter from the storm, albeit a makeshift one. The homeless people were anonymous, as opposed to having familiar people like friends or family.

The dream is more like a reflection on your personality. I see adaptability and versatility in your willingness to work or interact with people whom you don't know in order to accomplish a goal or deal with a turbulent situation.

I had a dream about a member of this board...I wasn't going to mention it...but it was very profound. First part of the dream featured me outside a room waiting for this person to come out...things were happening and I got distracted...next part I was viewing their album on their profile and looking at pictures of them...this person has no pictures of themselves...so I am not sure who I am looking at...I know I've never had seen the person before...I felt at peace looking at them...by the way this person is female...I will leave it at that. I have never had a dream like this...keeps me thinking about the person.

A female member, huh. At least we know that much. ;) In the dream, was she a "made up" anonymous character who's not really a member? Or is she someone who regularly posts on this board?

I dreamt that I had to hide two men from the police. I had a very large house which was all higgledy piggledy with dozens of rooms and secret passages.

First I went through a hidden door in the kitchen, along a passage which had three small rooms coming off of it. At the end of the passage there was another hidden door. We went through that and came to another passage. We went along that until we came to the last room that came off of it. We went into that room. There was a large white wardrobe. There were clothes piled at the bottom of a wardrobe. I removed the clothes and then I removed the bottom of the wardrobe. Beneath the wardrobe there was a very small room, just large enough for the men to sit in. They went inside and I handed them a large bottle of water. I told them not to talk at all and to move as little as possible. I also said there was a lever on the inside of the hatch into the room that would lock the hatch from the inside. There was a air vent in the side of the room and I told them that they could look though it to the outside world and see when the police left. This is when the dream ended.

I have no idea who the men were or why I was hiding them but I have a feeling it was the right thing for me to do.

EDITED TO ADD - I was actually a man in this dream.

Interesting follow-up to my dream about living in an abandoned car dealership. I did a Google search to see if anyone really had resorted to living in old dealerships with the housing market in such a mess. There wasn't, but I found a lot of articles about how cities were trying to find new uses for these empty lots.

Then an acquaintance told me about how he was trying to open a storage facility in a community that really needed one, but land he was looking to buy was not zoned for it. That's when I remembered my dream and suggested that he check out empty car dealerships, because it's already zoned for it and most towns might offer him a small business loan to convert those eyesores into something productive.

^
That is a good idea. There are a lot of place where I live for business opportunities...coming up with the money is a different story.

I had a dream yesterday that was so crazy...but I forgot what it was about...I just remember the crazy feeling I had when I woke up.

I had two dreams overnight, both of which involved travelling to places. They seemed to take place in the exact same dreamworld with the same dream-like methods and technologies. In fact, this was similar to the last dream I mentioned about my travelling eastwards in the middle of the night to some central city place, in that it also involved travelators and escalators.

Anyway.

The first dream was short, and occurred during a mid-evening snooze between 6 and 8 last night. In it, I was walking around a city (which I thought might have been a combination of Edinburgh and Doncaster with bits of London) trying to get to some particular place of importance, while carrying an important object, possibly a ornamental amulet or necklace, in my pocket. I remembered that this object belonged to someone else, and that I was delivering it for them.

In the dream I remember trying to negotiate my way through a maze of indoor corridors and outdoor alleyways and paths, initially resembling one of the hospitals I used to work in, later resembling a busy park within the city centre (similar to those areas in Edinburgh) with several Whitechapel-esque shop stalls along each side, like a shopping precinct, then connecting towards another hospital in the middle of the city, through corridors. Some aspects of the city were familiar to me, notably a series of travelators and escalators connecting what appeared to be railway or subway stations with familiar but not obvious landmarks, such as certain street lamps or modern buildings.

The dream was set in daytime, and part of the dream involved me travelling between these stations while an announcer announced which station they were arriving, except that I was moving and not on a train of sorts. Eventually night came, and I was still in the city, trying to get to this one place I've been trying to reach. I knew it was in some sort of vague direction, but as I was about to give up hope, I remembered seeing a work colleague of mine walking in the same direction, telling me that he knew the way there, and eventually I reached the final stage of the journey, a suburban area with trees, grass, and a road to the left (the north-west of the city) which led to my destination.

As I walked towards this road, I heard several voices inside my head, perceived as thoughts, then later as taunts from other people, notably a Gollum-like voice mocking me and pretending to be my closest friend whose task I was performing, and, as the dream closed, another voice, a seductive but cold female voice talking in sarcastic tones, whom I interpreted was my arch-nemesis.

The second dream was very similar, and occurred earlier this morning. I believe it took place in the same universe. It was a very long dream.

In this dream I was taking part in a task to retrieve some gold from a mine in the middle of the same city. This was all part of a game I was playing, taking it in turns with a fellow team-mate to extract the gold. The gold was kept in a private seam in the middle of London, towards the back of Buckingham Palace, and the previous team attempting to extract it (all Australian for some reason) failed to return.

I arrived there in someone's car, and, with my mining gear on, set to work. I didn't get far, and used a torch (made from an old and abandoned can of Foster's) to illuminate the cave which had caved in just beyond the entrance. I saw, dimly lit, one of the members of the previous team, and that they had extracted a sizeable amount of gold, which I secretly grabbed and hid in my right trouser pocket next to another semi-precious gem which I kept with me at all times as a good luck charm.

My colleague spotted me do this, but I successfully told him it was nothing, then quietly left the scene, grabbed a red mountain bike, and left the cave and the grounds of Buckingham Palace, leaving the gates and turning right, along the main road, hopefully towards that same destination I was looking for in the previous dream (in the first dream I thought it was a work place, but in this dream it was definitely some home-like dwelling).

However, I got lost quickly. It was daytime but leading into the night very quickly, and I travelled due west from Buckingham Palace and returned to the same network of "stations" linked with travelators and escalators, which I thought was familiar and which would lead me to my home. This time, I travelled along the same network, in the same direction, on my bicycle, with all the crowds travelling towards me in the opposite direction moving out of the way as I cycled past, but instead of going the usual way, the first "stop" I arrived at was a four-star hotel, with odd architecture, green plush carpets, and friendly staff. The suites were given very idiosyncratic, typical suite names, with the dining suite oddly named the "Pet Store". I wandered around the hotel for an hour, up and down stairs, again on my bicycle, looking for the exit and even at one point shouting out for the exit. I eventually returned to the "Pet Store" suite reception and asked for the exit: it was in a corridor behind the desk, leading up to some stairs and then to the outdoors again.

I left the hotel and returned to my journey, returning momentarily to retrieve my bicycle - I had absent-mindedly left it in the hotel lobby where a young boy, sleeping on one of the armchairs, climbed onto it while asleep but wasn't going anywhere; I gently removed him from my bicycle and went on my way. I decided to avoid the stations networks and go in what I thought was the right general direction: northwest-wards. However, I was not making very good progress, and although it was still the daytime, my watch told me that it was now just past 11 in the evening, even though the sun was still out but low in the sky.

My journey took me to the countryside, which I thought was still the right direction, and I even cut across farmland and a gate to reach the next road. However, the skies were darkening, and the animals in the countryside started turning into animated plasticine animals, singing and dancing just like in some Australian kids TV show I think I dreamed about. I then realised that my bicycle had disappeared as in this crazy midnight plasticine countryside world, such bicycles didn't exist, and I had to make do with some other plasticine bicycle to help me get by. Eventually I doubled-back and cycled back the way, hoping to reach the city again and the familiar roadsides, but then stopped and called out to the skies for a Google search for a London map, and as if by magic, a giant monitor descended from the skies, shaped like a speech bubble, and showed me the route I should have taken: my destination (labelled as the BBC Barons for some reason) was southwest, not northwest of Buckingham Palace.

Immediately I found myself inside a familiar house, watching this map on a television screen, with familiar people, one of whom was an older female colleague whom I worked with, who understood my predicament and offered to drive me to that destination later that night. While I initially declined, I eventually went with that offer, and the dream closed with the two of us leaving the house and getting into her car, myself staring out at the night-time countryside before me which by now was showing me the exact route we needed to go.

I had a dream about a computer game, that had been created by aliens. It was so addictive that they had been playing it for eons, and now wanted to bring it to earth.

I was the first earthling to be shown it. The game was really fun, but very difficult to master.

Suffice to say I lost. The (genie?) got loose in the house, and all of the children were put to sleep.

I want to play again.

edited to add: The genie getting loose in the house caused a *lot* of excitement for the alien spectators. Apparently it's a challenging and exhilarating part of the game trying to get to the children before the genie puts them to sleep. The genie had gained a limited ability to move through the walls at that point too.
