The Improving the JJprise thread

"Gentlemen, gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the War Room!"

Seriously, though. I grew up with two antenna TVs and
Uh-oh.
He vanished mid-sentence.

Maybe the DVD's and other stuff really do disappear.

You should have hated the movie when you had the chance, before it premiered. Now you see what happens when you're willing to accept that it's just a movie. This isn't a movie, it's war! It's the holy faithful against the people who think it's just a fun diversion.

Now you know better, and knowing is half the battle! The other half? Crying. Lots of crying.

Instead, it will be forever imagined as an action adventure story set in space, where young, good looking leads, and their crew wear colorful costumes and use semi-plausible technology to explore the galaxy in mighty starships.

My GOD what hath this movie wrought?!

But... but...

Pfft! Who said I hated it? Me likey. Best thing to happen to Trek in decades.

And why would I hate it before it premiered anyway?
That's flat-out fucking stupid.

the fans are full of spite
and spoilin' for a fight
like the reptilian gorn
sound the klingon battle horn
this thread is boldly goin'
nowhere, and we're knowin'
and waitin' for the lock,
it's logical like spock.

Paramount had what's supposedly its first float in the Pasadena Rose Bowl Parade this year. It featured the Enterprise:

Oh, I thought it featured the starship Enterprise. It was just JJ's pos.

That is the starship Enterprise, now, and easily recognized as such by anyone who'd see the float; there's no reason in the world the studio that owns Star Trek should choose an old design to promote their product. Disney occasionally uses Steamboat Willie art for nostalgic purposes, but the official version of Mickey for publicity and merchandising is the current one. Now, the Enterprise may not be as big a deal to Paramount as Mickey Mouse is to Disney, but it must be getting close.

It's really pretty awesome that Trek has become that, and the float looks damned good.

Strange. Seems to me that there are a lot ships called Enterprise.

And we'll see which one has more staying power too. In 40 years we'll see if anyone gives a hoot about the JJ-Prise. The original proved to be an international icon. 100 years from now I suspect that if an historian had to pick one image to show someone what the fictional starship Enterprise looked like they won't pick the JJ-Prise.

With any luck we'll get a refit in the JJ-verse too.

I dunno, with a clean slate and the new Enterprise carrying over essentially all the iconic look of the old one, it could well act as the mascot to the franchise as a whole, at least for now.

Not according to some fans.

But fans are like space heaters. All we have to offer is hot air, and not much else.

True.

The just cause it looks cool premisse isn´t that bad, and is a part of the game even today. Not all those lines, curves and other details placed on modern cars and edifications, for example, are really necessary. Design is a part of the game, is part of what make us to buy this or that. ;) So, I believe the same can be applyed to starfleet vessels. Of course that designs are a personal choice, so, what is beatifull for one, isn´t for the other. :)
Hell, that's how the Excelsior was designed. I mentioned to Bill George that I knew people who asked what certain details were for on the Excelsior, and his reply was "It looked cool. That's why." It's not the Andy Probert approach, at all, but some people like the results.
