This is my opinion as well. I felt there were a lot of scenes in the theatrical cut that seemed like they should have been left for the extended cut, such as the pointless rock giants scene. I even debated whether to even get the upcoming blu-ray at all. I did pre-order it, but I definitely won't be double-dipping for the EE. If this is what we can expect from the next two, it's no wonder PJ was able to pad this story out to 3 movies. An extended cut? Really? My biggest complaint about the movie was that it was a theatrical release that already felt like an extended cut. I guess I shouldn't be surprised...
^ I could easily see the fireside song lasting twice as long as it does...
The humor was not funny.
Someone with some serious balls should have told Peter Jackson NO to stuff like that.
Nobody wants to drop major cash to see a bird-shit in 48FPS and 3D.

Yep, that's what I plan to do.That's what I did with the LOTR movies. Once I found out about they were doing extended edition, I just rented the theatrical versions, and then bought the EEs.
My Target wasn't selling EE, and I went to Best Buy, and they only ordered THREE copies and they're not ordering anymore. WTF! This is a billion dollar movie, people!!!

Well, if it's anything like my local Best Buy, they don't keep much of anything in stock anymore. The last few times I've gone their to buy something, they have been out of stock, so I just don't even bother anymore.
