The Hippie Songs from 'Way To Eden'

I wonder if the episode would have worked the same if the producers had used real 1960's era musicians as the Space Hippies. Maybe Frank Zappa as Dr. Sevrin?

The Beatles, maybe? I wonder if any of them were Trek fans.

Which Beatle would have played Dr. Sevrin?

Dunno...I am actually curious to know if any of the Beatles has ever said they were a Trek fan. I know they were all huge Python fans (Ringo was on Monty Python's Flying Circus, and George was in Life of Brian) but I'm not aware if any of them were Trekkies.

If I had to pick one though I'd guess John would have. He was the most political of the four, wasn't he? So the role of Sevrin might have appealed to him, since Sevrin definitely was a man of strong opinions...

I've never read of a direct Trek/Beatles connection, and appearing on a fictional TV series filmed in America doesn't seem like something they would have done. They were pretty careful about how they projected their image, turning down opportunities to do commercials and whatnot that could have earned them even greater gobs of money.

After the Beatles, I wouldn't be surprised if John was acquainted with TOS, since he spent half the 70s staying at home and doing a lot of TV watching. I've also read references to Paul having supposedly met Roddenberry in the 70s and discussed the possibility of collaborating on a sci fi movie, but if it happened, that idea likely never made it past the discussion in question, and I'd lay down money that there was peculiar-smelling smoke in the air when it was discussed.

Speaking of Sevrin, ever see this on Wikipedia?
From Wikipedia-

"Timothy Brown argues that Dr. Sevrin is "a clear stand-in for Timothy Leary." Like the acolytes of Leary, Charles Manson, and other counter-culture leaders, Sevrin's followers are "under the spell of charismatic but dangerously unhinged leaders" and "stand for a sixties generation in the thrall of misled idealism."

Okay, we're off to a rough start here, but let's see if we can pull up.

I would suggest you take some time to review the rules of posting here. They are pinned at the top of this forum.

This thread has been dead for 6 years, so we're going to let it rest in peace.

May I also suggest you start by reading threads and getting to know the place a little bit. Then participate in an ongoing thread or two until you get the hang of it.
