The grocery store disgusts me sometimes...

^^Sounds like you might have a combi debit/credit card

with a single credit or debit card its

insert card into reader when told to
enter PIN when prompted
remove card when prompted.

Most card payments take less than 10 seconds to authorise, In fact most are less than £5 from the time you enter your PIN.

Really a card payment takes around the same time as a cash payment. Remember with cash the cashier has to sort it into the right compartments. Get your change if needed. If it's an exact amount and you pay only using one denomination maybe cash is faster. I.e. transaction is £20 you pay with a £20 note.

^I'm sure there must be some sort of regulation about not spending less time on TBBS. If not there should be. :p

After reading through this thread, I am never going to complain about my local Kroger ever again!

I've never encountered any attitude or incompetence from the employees in the store. Everyone seems to be well-trained for their job, even the U-Scan clerk, and they also seem to be glad to be doing their job. If any of them view me, as a customer, the way some posters here who work in retail have stated they view their customers, they do a good job of hiding it from me. About the worst I ever encounter is the occasional newly-hired bagger (bagger must be the "entry-level" post, I guess) who is either in zombie mode or really wishes he were somewhere else and doesn't care who knows it. Those guys tend to disappear pretty quickly, though. :D

Even the customers are apparently better behaved around here. I've never seen anyone wandering around the store in sleepwear or eating the store's stock while they shop. I've never had anyone crash their cart into mine and give me a dirty look about it. (I have had a minor cart-bump coming around corners on occasion, which leads to nothing more than two simultaneous utterances of "Oops, sorry!").

Did I just happen to luck-up and land in a particularly civilized part of the country or something?
