In my opinion, I'm going to have to say Carl Sagan.
Stephen Hawking. Only because the "50 year" restriction precludes Einstein.
Richard Feynman.

That's why I gave the restriction. Otherwise the majority would probably have said Einstein.
No, Einstein firmly believed "God does not play dice with the universe." A belief about which he turned out to be dead wrong.
Why, nobody mentioned Burkhard Heim? 
But yes, for me it's a tie between Hawking and Feynmnn. Hawking probably is a better theorist, but Feynman was Physics. A real embodiment of science.

Either Paul Dirac or Richard Feynman.
Hawking made significant contributions to black hole physics, but not as significant as QED, for example.
Einstein was proved wrong about 'God doesn't play dice' by Bohr/Heinsenberg and quantum mechanics.
