The future of Trek is to create a show like Star Trek but not called that?

Yes, indeed. Change seems to be a taboo word.

Change can take many forms and what is good or bad change is a deeply personal thing.
I think the issue with a show like Discovery is that it's set before TOS and yet it looks more advanced than TOS. Enterprise suffered from this as well. And then there's the whole issue of this new Klingon look thing and how that change fits in to the context of all trek shows set at later dates. I think all future trek shows should take place after Voyager and never be set in the past. That way you avoid all this nonsense.
Some people will say that doesn't matter as long as the stories are good. Clearly it doesn't matter though to a great many trek fans

Please, continue to miss my point. It feels great :sigh:

I'm sorry, I didn't intended to! Really!
I think, what I originally meant: This trailer for Lost in Space looks a lot like a genuine, 21st century space opera. Not being ashamed of doing aliens, monster, but overall having a very realistic, grounded tone. Something that Star Trek originally strived towards, too (it seems ridiculous now, but TOS, TNG and even VOY to some extend were actually really groundbreaking in terms of depicting "realism" in space opera). I mean, there are no alien spaceships in the LiS-trailer so far. But just looking at the tone of the show, the production value, the props, the scope, the realism - I think there's a lot that modern Trek can actually learn from!

I'm not disagreeing that Trek can't learn from it. I think that it can. I'm disagreeing that it "felt like Trek" because it really didn't. Not in the way the characters interacted with each other.

Yeah, the character work so far don't seem like the shows strongest part in this trailer...
Hope that might be a bit misdirection/stuff not really coming through in the trailer. But I trust Netflix somewhat to have good character work in their shows, even if it's not visible on first sight.
But Imo all the genre stuff - alien planets, robots, monsters, starships, spacesuits, rovers - basically that makes it science fiction - looks a lot to my likening and in a way I would like it to be depicted in Trek, too!

I just don't want it depicted in the same way, especially with the spacesuits. Even robots were more humanoid in appearance and function in Star Trek.

I'm not trying to be obtuse, but there is little that screams "Star Trek" other than wanting more exploration. Which, I'll grant, but that's an accidental thing in "Lost in Space" not the purpose. And, it shows in the trailer.

Especially when they went right into the middle of the neutral zone. Loved that one. The kids must have loved it too.

Im all for an expanded universe.. just dont put 2 or 3 ships/ crews so close together and have each one have different uniforms and technology. At least make the stuff close enough to be feasible

Multiple POV's is the way to solve the static pacing of being on the bridge all the time. It's also more objective.

Oh, and finally, please someone make a Trek show with true 24 h days! Don't have the captain and the XO on the bridge at the same time (the XO should command the captain's off shift). Use aliens with a different circadian rhythm. Some could work for 3 days straight and then sleep for 2, some could only take 4 hour shifts and then take 4 hours off and come back, etc.

In fairness, Spock and Data were often said to not need sleep and worked multiple shits back to back.

But yes, a new Trek might benefit from something of a realistic shift structure. Not all aliens will wait until alpha shift to attack.
