The Flintstones is getting a remake... by Seth MacFarlane

I feel this as good of a time as any to post this:

Re: Hey, Fred, Remember that Time You...

Get used to hearing Wilma and Barney say that a lot because Seth MacFarlane and his team of manatees have been hired to reboot the Flintstones:

  • The Flintstones will be produced jointly by 20th Century Fox Television and Warner Bros Television. Dan Palladino (Gilmore Girls) and Kara Vallow (Family Guy) will serve as executive producers with Seth MacFarlane who says the very first cartoon character he drew at age 2 was Fred Flintstone. “So it’s appropriate that events have come full circle, allowing me to produce the newest incarnation of this great franchise. Plus, I think America is finally ready for an animated sitcom about a fat stupid guy with a wife who’s too good for him.”

I'm sure that this will be nothing like his other shows: Family Guy, Secret Agent Family Guy and Black Family Guy.
Oh yay.
Didn't Seth MacFarlane work on Johnny Bravo?

. . . What makes cartoons like these timeless are the lack of social commentary or anything referencing popular culture, which is something that Seth McFarlane is very prone to do.
The Flintstones did occasionally make references to popular culture.

Is that Sophia Loren? Maybe Ann Margaret? Elizabeth Montgomery?

Anybody else notice the music at the very end???

Those are the opening notes of the original Flintstones instrumental theme:

It does sound a bit like the Bugs Bunny Show theme (“This Is It!”) but they’re not the same.

And both tunes sound like “Fine and Dandy.”

MacFarlane was fine when he was only doing one damn show. I think part of the problem with Family Guy when he brought it back was he was now splitting his efforts between two shows (American Dad) and now these days its three (The Cleveland Show). Now he's adding a fourth? Whatever. Time to guess the cast. I'm guessing MacFarlane himself will be doing Fred, what other Family Guy Alum can we think of. Mike Henry (Cleveland, among others) is pretty much guaranteed. Might even be Barney.

^Not to mention he's got a live action feature in the works, making his directorial debut.

Also his guest spots on the ABC show Flashforward seemed comedically out of place.

Let's see, he's going to have to have The Rock as a guest star. Stone Phillips? I'm having a hard time thinking of some modern punny names at the moment.

Yeah, the original Flintstones used a lot of celebrity references that are dated now - Hoagy Carmichael? And the spin-offs - jeez louise, does anything get stale more quickly than HB's clueless attempts to portray "hip young people" in the persons of Pebbles and Bam-Bam?

I like McFarlane and I like The Flintstones, so I'll look forward to this. Sounds good. :techman:

Of course, I'd rather see Parker and Stone do it.

So I guess all the stuff that was implicitly creepy and weird about the Flintstones is about to get explicitly spelled out. Ready for the can opener/pterodactyl to make rape jokes with all the subtlety of a bludgeon? Seth MacFarlane does not fucking care if you're ready. It's happening.

Just think, if they have a reference to Caprica, they could have Daniel Greystone :guffaw: get it, Greystone:guffaw: or a reference to Nightwing as Dick Greystone :guffaw:Thank you, I'll be here all week.President Bedrock Obama, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnstone:lol: Kid Rock, Queens of the Stone Age, Captian Caveman, The Rolling Stones, Stone Trek, Blackberry Tablet, Stone Wars, Stone Man(Iron Man), oh I crack me up.

If MacFarlane worked on Johnny Bravo, he clearly wasn't in charge. Thank God.
I shudder to think what Johnny would be like if MacFarlane had actually created him.
