The Flintstones is getting a remake... by Seth MacFarlane

I've got a bad feeling about this... and an urge to find Fred's club... then take MacFarlane to the Loyal Order of Water Buffalos... then let them take a few whacks at him.

If it's anything like the more adult shorts that I saw on Cartoon Network a few years back, it might turn out really well. They were really clever and clearly aimed at a more mature audience, but weren't particularly vulgar or aggressive.

But I kinda doubt it with this guy.

Seconded.

I look forward to new, younger fans of The Flintstones and their whining about how it's a rip off of Family Guy or The Simpsons.

I think people are getting a bit worked up about the whole remake thing, given that The Flintstones was an animated, prehistoric version of The Honeymooners to begin with.

True, although if there's one thing is that some things are never meant to be "more mature." The reason why some of these cartoons are so successful and managed to pass the test of time, is that they ultimately just 'were.' They didn't try to be something they weren't other than cartoons that some adult and kid alike could enjoy. That's what made them timeless. And my big fear in all this is that in making things "more mature" and putting a 21st Century spin on it, they'll actually make them feel dated as time moves on. What makes cartoons like these timeless are the lack of social commentary or anything referencing popular culture, which is something that Seth McFarlane is very prone to do. And the minute anyone would be doing something like this to a classic cartoon series, it would stop being true to itself.

I can see it now. Fred is a stoner, cause he's from the Stone Age. Haha, very funny. Not!

The Flintstones did occasionally make references to popular culture.

This news fails to enthuse me. Remakes have a tendency to suck, almost without exception.

They did it more than just occasionally. Guest Stars aside, I think it just seems like they referenced the current culture less because we recognize less of it. though I don't have any proof of that theory.

It will look like this. I can't imagine they would break with the established style.
I call Stewie as the Great Gazoo.
