Spoilers The Flash - Season 5

I tend to give them a pass for something like that, because by the same reasoning, if none of it had happened, then Eddie wouldn't have had any reason to kill himself, Thawne would still exist, and it all still would have happened. So it's a time paradox.

Yes, of course, but it's still silly the way they portrayed it. It's a logical contradiction to say that Eddie prevented Eobard from ever being born in the first place yet everyone still remembers Eobard and all his actions. Even if a story is fantasy, it should at least be logically consistent within itself, and this was very, very much not.

It makes sense from an outside-the-timeline perspective. Up until that point, he could exist, and therefore he did. At that point, he could no longer exist going forward. But because he was also outside the timeline in a sense, as a time traveler, his past actions from when he could have existed weren't undone.

In legends, everyone's memories change to match history and future history.

Eddy is not Thawne's relative.

Or Thawne knew Eddy was going to be killed and had paradox compensators in place prepared... WTF is a Time Eddie?

Thawne is funny?

In fluid dynamics, an eddy is the swirling of a fluid and the reverse current created when the fluid is in a turbulent flow regime.[2] The moving fluid creates a space devoid of downstream-flowing fluid on the downstream side of the object. Fluid behind the obstacle flows into the void creating a swirl of fluid on each edge of the obstacle, followed by a short reverse flow of fluid behind the obstacle flowing upstream, toward the back of the obstacle. This phenomenon is naturally observed behind large emergent rocks in swift-flowing rivers.

TBH with the kind of tech Thawne has access to, all he needs is some of Eddie's DNA and a turkey baster stashed in a secure location and there's enough wiggle room that the Time Wraiths can't get him.

The Doctor survived being erased from Time due to a story told to a little girl and a few clever visual clues bound to be dropped on her wedding day, ffs. ;)

That was dumb. And I speak from experience, as I almost got caught doing something once.

Next time Grant, try a tranquilizer or an edible.

He was very lucky he was only given a warning. That could have gone a lot worse. Sometimes actors feel a certain privilege as if the rules don't apply to them. This doesn't rise to Baldwin level idiocy, but it's not a good look for him. Hopefully he got a scare and this will be an isolated incident.

That's odd, the channel I normally watch it on, isn't airing this episode until Saturday.

I'm in Canada, so I can just catch it on Netflix later this week, but I like to watch it the same night as the rest of you so I don't have to avoid spoilers.

My cable provider doesn’t offer any channel to watch it so I have to rely on Netflix Canada. It’s a bit annoying to be behind but at least it’s commercial free.

Good to get the whole story about Nora in the future, but I'm disappointed that after all that, Barry is still in the exact same place of distrust and pre-emptive judgment that he was in the previous episode weeks ago. He didn't come off well here.

Nora's home time is 9 years after the future stuff on Arrow lately. I was kind of hoping for a nod, but the closest we got was Nora's partner asking if they were vigilantes, and that's not close at all. Maybe they don't want to spoil anything.

Speaking of nods, the laundry truck that Nora crashed into on her first speed burst was labeled "Gambi & Sons." While that's no doubt a nod to Black Lightning's Peter Gambi, that Gambi is a tailor rather than a, err, launderer, and I don't think he has any sons. So maybe this is his Earth-1 doppelganger's family business.

Apparently Godspeed was voiced by BD Wong, even though someone else played the guy out of costume. I guess they're continuing the tradition of secret-identity speedsters having dubbed voices, as with Zoom/Tony Todd and Savitar/Tobin Bell. Although it didn't serve to conceal the guy's identity, since he only said two words out of costume.

I say they just justify it with the Spear of Destiny.

"I got involved with magic. That never works out well for logic."

It's strange, Space took Legends and Arrow but not The Flash.

I'm sure they could have found room in the schedule.

They’re really trying to make Barry unlikeable. He’s such a hypocrite as we’ve seen him go to Thawne multiple times for help.
I’m a bit confused in Nora’s timeline as I thought she always knew her dad was the Flash.

We needed that Episode is February. Heck, that could have been the midseason premiere rather than stalling for time for 8 episodes plus various hiatus's. This episode was needed to tell Nora's origin story and it was really good. I actually got a little emotional when Leah died, considering that left Nora pretty much all alone. As for going to Thawn several times, wasn't it mainly to update him on Cicada? Everything Team Flash did failed (Not to mention several times of just leaving him there when they had perfect opportunities to put him in the pipeline. With that said, I can understand Berry here, even if what he did seemed a little harsh.

Yeah, but Barry's perspective is, why continue consulting him at all, instead of trusting in the team? She went to him in the first place to get insight into how an evil speedster thought and how to beat one. Cicada wasn't a speedster. Moreover, Cicada was her personal mission, her wish to work with her father to help him solve the one case he never could. So why continue to keep secrets from her father and work with his worst enemy? I still think Barry overreacted, but I can see his perspective, on reflection. It seems there's still more to the story of why Nora and Thawne are working together.

This episode was decent, but I feel like they should have covered more and left a lot of unanswered questions. I think the confrontation between Nora and Iris was shortchanged. I would have liked to see more Thawne, and less Godspeed and Leah. Focus more on the characters we already know since there was a lot to cover.

But I did like the episode overall.

"Godspeed"

Overall a great episode. I always love it when the show focuses on the mythos of speedsters and the Flash. And it was great to see 2049 and see how Nora became a speedster and what made her work with Thawne and go back in time. The episode also had a lot of nice moments. Seeing Nora as a CSI, like when she is late to work, definitely paralleled season 1 Barry. She is definitely Barry's daughter. Seeing Godspeed was cool. The video Barry recorded for Nora before Crisis where he tells her he loves her was a wonderful moment. Barry confrontation with Thawne in his cell was a powerful scene too. Good job from Grant Gustin. Also, a big kudos to Danielle Panabaker for directing her first episode! Nice job!

Now for the not so good moments:
- Why did Team Flash get mad at Sherloque? They would not have believed him anyway if he had come to them earlier with his suspicions. Plus, he was absolutely right that he needed some proof before coming forward. And yes, their anger was misplaced. They were angry at the messenger just for delivering an uncomfortable message.
- Barry also did not come across well in this ep either. I get that Thawne is evil and cannot be trusted but I was frankly shocked that even after her explanation, he forcefully sends her back to her time and even threatens her not to come back. I am afraid he is making a huge mistake because it will only push her further away and maybe even turn her into an enemy. Now, she is alone, with only Thawne as an ally. Plus, having her idol, her dad, the Flash, basically exile her and not want to have anything to do with her, is pretty harsh and crushing.

Questions:
- Isn't Godspeed supposed to be a major villain? I hope we see him again and he's not a one off.
- So Barry has Speed Force spidey senses that will tell him if Nora tries to time travel again? What!? Why didn't Barry know then the first time she time traveled back or when other speedsters like Thawne travel through time?

I believe some of the early flashbacks (from Nora's perspective) did show she didn't know for a long time. I do agree Barry was a bit of an ass. But I'm wondering why we haven't see Iris and the others in the future. Is it to avoid showing us she has been changing the timeline that somehow did not prevent Thawne's incarceration. For once, I'd like see Nora stopping by to see her family, and noticing some changes...

Also, did anyone notice the suits hanging. It appears Wally and Cisco hasn't been playing superheroes for 25 years...
