Spoilers The Flash - Season 5

The premiere established he wasn't getting enough sleep, that's why he had been napping in the newly discovered lounge.
I did notice towards the end of this week’s episode Iris told him he needed to rest and recover. With Joe in a bathrobe. That was the only direct mention of it by other characters. Maybe it the lack of sleep from being a father to a baby again.

I am not super worried about Jesse L Martin unless given more proof to be. He has been in both episodes. If he was completely absent I would feel different. It’s possible he had a minor accident or surgery and they are writing his scenes in a way to allow him to still appear until healed.

Regarding reconciling with the comics--I do think certain things being changed is fine--like simplifying Iris' origin to just a normal human with normal parents. Unless they were willing and able to start that whole 30th century storyline from the get go, this made much more sense.

A story arc like that really only works when a character has been around for a long time, there have been hundreds of stories, and they need a major twist to keep it interesting.

I wasn't a fan of Wally being a brother rather than a nephew, but I guess they made a decision to not have to cast a sibling for Iris. I am not a huge fan of Wally on this show, as he doesn't embody the character like the cartoon did, and also that they never really used him well, but he was serviceable, and his status as Iris' brother rather than nephew really wasn't that important.

But for major characters and storylines, they should try to keep consistent. Barry and Iris have twins and I do think that should be consistent since it does lead to Bart Allen as well. I don't think this storyline loses a thing if Nora was named Dawn or XS was a granddaughter. Change for purpose can be fine. Change for no reason? Not as much. So yeah, I wouldn't mind if they make it more consistent with the comics.

Well that was from being tortured by Cicada.
That's probably slightly more tiring than a newborn. ;)

Again: If it were purely a matter of character, then they wouldn't have done the shots and editing in that specific way that avoided showing Jesse L. Martin standing and walking at a point when Joe West was standing and walking in-story. The plot does have Joe moving around when he needs to, but the camera always cuts away so we don't actually see it happen. If Joe's fatigue were an in-story plot point, they'd emphasize it with the camera work, not downplay it.

And the references to Joe's fatigue at being a new parent could've been written in as an in-story justification for whatever real-world thing is limiting the actor's mobility. After all, they aren't showing Cecille going through the same thing.

I did a web search but couldn't up with any beyond some speculation on the Flash reddit where one person mentioned he'd been in a car accident between seasons and another said it was minor stroke but there wasn't anything to backup either claim.

I saw this on reddit, read the episode titles in a row. If on purpose, or a coincidence, either way it's funny.

Haha i also have a daughter of three who refuse to pee in the toilet because she says she helps with diaper changing which really doesn't help at all :)

My son totally crushed peeing, it was pooping that was a real struggle. He would take a dump in his underwear and not care at all. It was so frustratingly disgusting. A lot of underwear were promptly thrown into the garbage.

Oh crap, they're taking episode titles from one of those "five words" threads. :D

Is the Flash doing one of those Doctor Who Bad Wolf things this season. It could be good if they are creative with it. In case anyone is wondering, the title for this week's episode is "News Flash".

Reading the previous comments I didn't know I would learn potty training techniques in a Flash thread. This will be useful if I ever decided I wanted kids. :D

This is the only advice I give any new parent: sleep when the baby sleeps. Do the dishes later. Watch TV later. Sleep when the baby sleeps or you will find yourself sleep deprived.

Im curious about Sherlock Wells asking Nora about whether she came back because it was just her idea or if she was doing it for someone else.

Maybe she was sent into the past by future Iris, which is why Nora seems to be avoiding present Iris. She worried about disappointment her for failing and changing the timeline. Future Iris may have been so grief stricken that she raised Nora with the intent to save Barry.

Off of that, I wonder what became of Wally in that future, hopefully he’s taken on the mantle of the Flash like his comic predecessor. He does seem to be part of Nora’s life, however given her lack of skill I don’t see her being his sidekick.
