Spoilers The Flash - Season 5

Speaking of 2056, that's the year that future Barry sent the message to the Legends that was an important part of the Invasion crossover. That's also seven years after 2049, the year from which the newspaper and (I'm assuming) Nora came from. But if Barry is sending messages from 2056 before Nora messes with the timeline, doesn't that imply that Barry found his own way back without Nora's help?
Maybe she doesn’t know that.

Was it explained why/how Nora was writing in that speed force language(?), in her journal last season?

Given the comics origins of both of the characters that Nora is based on - Jenni Ognats and Dawn Allen, I'm not entirely convinced that she's from the future of Earth-1.

I enjoyed this premiere more than I thought I would. I had given up on the Flash last season, but I decided to watch all the CW superhero shows premieres at least.
I really liked Jessica Parker Kennedy as XS. Not a fan of the codename, but that's DC comics's fault, not the show's. Kennedy had a sparkly kind of energy that I felt the show had been lacking. She seemed to be just enjoying the heroing. I felt they did a good job of making the character feel like a cross between her parents, and it was nice foreshadowing-last season-to have Iris's speedster suit look like XS's.

I thought this episode was fine. I liked the twist with XS and the mystery of Barry's fate. Though I wonder what has happened in the future between Iris and Nora to make her a bit reserved around Iris. Perhaps she didn't want to run the risk of saying too much around her mother.

Not a fan of the new suit. I thought the previous suit looked better. Heck, if they went with a version of the DCEU suit it might look better than what they've come up with now. I also though they wasted a potentially good villain in Gridlock. Not impressed by Cicada so far, but he might turn out to be a pretty effective villain by the end.

"Without our satellite, we have no way to scan the city," says the guy who can run from one end of the city to the other in a matter of seconds. Ever heard of patrolling, Barry?

Two things occur to me about Cicada having a doohickey that steals metas' powers:

1) It's a plausible way to pit Team Flash against a non-meta villain.
2) It lets the show save money on visual effects by reducing the fights to Arrow-style stunt work.

I wonder what the purpose of the Darth Vader breathing mask is, besides making a creepy sound. The guy obviously doesn't need assistance breathing. On the other hand, he does seem pretty strong, so maybe he's using some sort of inhaled drug that boosts his strength (Mirakuru, perhaps?).

This season is off to a great start. Solid episode. Good to see Iris doing investigative journalism and Barry doing CSI work. The talk between Papa Joe and Barry was a great scene. Joe really shines in the wise father role. Nora continues to be a fun character. She is a lot like season 1 Barry. The humor scenes with Cisco, Caitlyn and Ralph were fun.

I wonder if the Green Arrow could defeat Cicada. Cicada would not be able to use his thing that saps meta powers since the Green Arrow is not a meta. So that would neutralize one of Cicada's biggest weapons. And then, GA could attack Cicada from long range and avoid a close up fight. This would play to GA's strengths and neutralize Cicada's other strength, his physical strength. GA could just shoot Cicada with an arrow from the shadows. Too bad Oliver Queen is in prison or he could help out Team Flash.

Also, crazy theory: his Cicada Caitlyn's dad?

Unlikely. After all, Caitlin's father is probably a metahuman, which is why she was one from childhood. And Cicada is evidently out to kill all metahumans (he told Gridlock "I want all of you to die").

There's also the fact that the name forged on Caitlin's father's death certificate, Cameron Mahkent, is the name of the supervillain Icicle (Junior) in the comics.

Maybe she doesn’t know that.

I was thinking about the 2056 Barry too. Yeah, Nora wouldn't know that story because she's from around 2048 give or take. But BARRY would know that, and likely would have said something. Still, knowing you're gone for at least 25 years is not good to hear, even if say, you return 25 years and 1 day later.

So if I'm Barry, I try to prevent that disappearance too.

I would be surprised if Cicada is Caitlyn's dad. First, that's a bit too coincidental. Second, I believe he's played by Chris Klein, who is a little young to have a daughter in her late 20s/early 30s.

Flash continued it's great start to the season last night. Every storyline is really interesting right now, from the fun of Cisco pining over Gypsi to Nora and Barry being together and finally getting to officially meet Cicada. Coming into the season I wasn't sure if I was interested in Flash anymore, but two episodes in, they have my attention again. Of course I was going to watch anyway, but I'm actually surprised on how good this series has been the last two episodes. Nora continues to be a great character too.

I noticed this in last weeks episode, but part of the star labs logo is on Cicada’s metal lightning bolt. On the end he holds it from.

It was more noticeable last week. I’ll see if I can get a screen cap.

Well I assume it's Star Labs, all it really says is 'LAB', could easily be anything.

But the fact he's hunting Metahumans, most of which were probably created by the original explosion, it's probably Star Labs.

They did say it had a high dark matter concentration.

Speaking of logos, is it me, or is XS's symbol similar to the Legion of Super Heroes' symbol? Not identical, but evocative of both it and the Flash emblem.

My guess is that the only way to save Barry (without destroying the timeline) is for XS to transport future-Barry to her time. That way Barry skips over 25 years, but Iris is told of the plan so that she knows she will be reunited with Barry in the future (assuming she survives until XS's time).
