Spoilers The Flash - Season 4

They humanized Izzy in a way that they didn't with the others. That makes her situation more tragic.

As for tonight's episode, my two favorite people are back. Jesse and Jay.

Jay can't keep it up like he used to.

Have we seen Johnny Quick's speed formula on the show before?

^ I think there was a nod to it a couple of seasons ago.

Tonight's episode reminded me of this:

Now TV Flash can actually do that. Assuming he doesn't burn out first, which he might at this point.

So, is Jay training Jesse? Or can we expect to see a new speedster?

My guess is Jay is planning to train his daughter or maybe granddaughter to use their abilities. It's sounded like who he was referring to someone could be a speedster but does not how to use her powers. Most likely an offspring who inherited his speed.

It would be nice to finally learn about Jay's life. The writers have deliberately left that vague.

Really strong episode. Nice to see Jay but he felt underused.

The idea of the scene between Wells and Jesse about her mother was nice. But felt flat to me. Invisible mother who they do not bother to even give a name? Hard to feel any emotion.

I'm wondering who did the mother's voice. She sounded familiar. Maybe there's a reason they kept her name secret.

As for the "she" Jay intends to train, I'm wondering if it's the mysterious tiny woman who keeps showing up and meet-cuting with various characters.

From that tag scene, I'm getting the impression that she may not be one of the good guys...possibly manipulating events for DeVoe, which they made a point of bringing up that he's been doing.

Tracy Brand? Who had a relationship with HR last year. Harry probably has no idea HR or the team met the Earth One version of her yet. There was rumors of her coming back over the summer.

Tracy's too young to be Jesse's mother. Wasn't she just a grad student last year? Didn't sound like Anne Dudek either.

Oh, and by the way, the physics in this episode was stupid even by The Flash's standards. Deuterium isotopes undergoing fission???? No, no, no. Deuterium is an isotope of hydrogen. It's one proton and one neutron. It's used in fusion reactions, the direct opposite of fission. The nuclei of elements lighter than iron release energy when they're fused into heavier nuclei; nuclei heavier than iron release energy when they're split into lighter nuclei. Deuterium is the second-lightest nucleus in existence.

And no, you can't stop a fission reaction by making it fuse. I don't think freezing it would do much good either. The best solution, in theory, would probably be to somehow break up the reaction mass enough to stop the chain reaction. Or put in carbon damping rods like those in a nuclear reactor.

Also, how does sweat drip off of the speedsters' brows when they're in Flashtime? If external time is frozen, they should feel effectively no gravity, because it takes time for gravity to accelerate things downward. Of course, by the same token, they shouldn't be able to stand or run either. Or breathe, though I guess Barry would be accelerating the air molecules he touched. Or hear each other, since it would take a subjective eternity for the sound to pass through the air between them. Have I mentioned how much I hate stories in which characters are sped up in time?

Oh, and breach portals obviously take more than three picoseconds to close. At that speed, they'd blink out between one frame of video and the next. Instead, they collapse slowly enough that we can see it happening.

I am more and more convinced Mystery Girl is Joe and Cecile's daughter. Her appearance in this episode convinced me even more. I realize Dawn Allen and XS are the main candidates, but considering the emphasis on Cecile and Joe's soon to be born daughter.

I doubt it. Jessica Parker Kennedy is biracial, of "Italian, Russian, and African descent" according to her IMDb bio. So she'd be a better fit as a child or grandchild of Barry & Iris than as Cecile & Joe's child.

Yes, the physics was totally nonsensical but it was still a fantastic episode. A++

I loved having the Flash, Jesse and Jay Garrick all working together. So much speedster goodness in this episode! And, Jay Garrick always makes an episode better! The CGI of The Flash running through the Speed Force was amazing! The episode also had some great character moments. It was nice seeing Killer Frost care about losing Caitlyn. And, I won't lie. I cried during the scene at the end where Harry is sharing his thoughts of his wife with Jesse. Man, when this show pulls on your heart strings, it pulls them hard! Tom Cavanaugh is a great actor!

The last scene with coffee girl was intriguing too. She gave kind of an "evil" look into the camera which makes me think that she might not be all good after all.

Overall, this episode was a return to form. It ditched the comedy act, ditched the superfluous characters like Ralph Dibny and just gave us speedster awesomeness, drama and heartfelt character moments. This was a true The Flash episode!

^ Not sure why comedy and/or Ralph are bad things --
they're not
-- but agree this was an excellent high-concept episode.

Comedy and Ralph are not inherently bad, no. But I feel that the show does high concept dramatic episodes better but than comedic episodes. And if I had to pick between a Ralph episode and a Jay Garrick episode, I would pick the Jay Garrick episode. I just feel like the Jay Garrick episodes that we've gotten have been better episodes than the Ralph episodes.

Honestly I've been a bit underwhelmed by Shipp as Garrick thus far, but I think part of that is that they don't do enough with him even when he is in the episode. Give us a Jay-centric episode set on Earth-3 and turn him loose!

Frankly, Shipp has never been all that impressive an actor. He's improved since 1990-1, but not that much. So I can understand why they limit their use of him.
