Spoilers The Flash - Season 2

Based on something we saw this past episode, crazy new theory in that area:

He's not Henry Allen from Earth-1 or Earth-2...

...he's Barry Allen from the 1990 TV series.

Ohhh. I like that!

I'm still on the bandwagon that says Zoom is at least played by John Wesley Shipp. Like Mr Light said, it sure does look like his facial structure, But the idea of it actually being Barry Allen from the 1990s is just crazy enough to be fantastic.

I'm guessing you don't know how phones used to work, especially rotary ones and earlier. You could dial any number you wanted just by tapping on the button that the receiver rested on; the dial just did the tapping for you. You could do that, or call an operator to ask them to connect you to your destination as well (and that was the only way pre-rotary phones worked at all).

Sure, the lack of any kind of dialing device was weird, but it could still work as presented.
Of course I know how phones used to work. That was my point. The creation of the dial eliminated the need to ask the operator to get the number for you. That makes the phone in Earth 2 Barry's house not just retro, but archaic.

And as I pointed out (and based on that response, you clearly don't know how they worked) you simply had to manually enter the destination number by tapping the receiver button OR get operator assistance. Dials were just a convenience.

Why they didn't have that convenience is beyond me, but the phone would still work as presented.

Another possibility is that the hard-line is just for talking with family members and close friends and that they use a different device, such as a cell phone that they can turn off while at home, for all other calls. Telemarketers may be an even bigger menace on Earth 2 than Zoom.

Maybe it works like 6 degrees of separation.
You can only call 6 people, but each one of them can forward you to anyone on their list of 6 people and so forth until you get Kevin Bacon.

Which is still more complicated than having a proper dialing system.

Which is like saying my car will work fine without an engine if I just roll it down a steep hill. Maybe, but an engine is more useful than momentum.
