The Flash - Season 1

I'm confused about the timing. How is Oliver in this episode when it's airing before the Arrow finale? Is it set before or after the events of the past few Arrow episodes?

Figure it out after the dust settles, just like with the comics. "Hmm...this guest appearance must take place between this panel and this panel on page 17 of issue #233....Let's throw the annual in there, too."

Well I doubt it's set before, as he is clearly wearing League garb like he has been doing in the last few episodes.

Personally, I blame the idiotic way US television is scheduled. If it wasn't for the random weeks off these shows have been taking, the chronologys would probably line up fine.

Judging by the Arrow trailer, Barry is in that too - so possibly Barry runs off, picks up Ollie for some help, then drops him back into the Arrow episode?

On top of which Oliver is likely appearing in the Flash finale which airs after his own. One of the producers said Arrow does not end on a cliffhanger this year. Just setting up the new status quo. I would think by than the two series are airing in sequence again.

Think its confusing now, what to next year with Legends of Tomorrow on! We do not even know what night it airs. Oh and the possibility of Supergirl in the same universe too.

It would be interesting to see a timeline of all this. Hard to do though. Every episode of Arrow has flashbacks. The Flash sometimes does as well.

Made me think of something - one of my friends has been watching Arrow on netflixs, he knows less than nothing about comics, absolutely no interest at all. Anyway he's got to the bit where they introduce Barry - which to a non-comic reader is the most random thing ever. They introduce a love interest for one of the lead characters and then randomly he is struck by lightening and goes into a coma...

The other flip with this interweaving is you ended up getting spoilt without knowing this - I watched Flash before arrow so the fate of Black Canary was complete ruined for me.

That is interesting point. I recently learned my brother and 12 year old nephew watch The Flash but not Arrow. He figured Felicity at first was just a former girlfriend of Barry. He did not know at all that Barry was introduced on Arrow. My brother knows the character, we both watch the first show as kids, did not know this one was a spin off.

Its funny my nephew had asked when the Atom appeared why he does not shrink. I could not figure how he would know about him, he does not read comics. Other than the few I have given him as gifts. It turns out he knows the Atom because he appears in one of the LEGO video games with DC Super Heroes. Which is good to know, truth is most kids do not read comics anymore.

He is a smart kid, he asked me all these questions about the Reverse Flash and his own theories.

Cubs games have thrown the entire sync of the shows way off here in Chicago. Thanfully there is the CW app so I can actually watch everything when I am supposed to.

I was kind of surprised that they were showing Oliver working with Barry and Firestorm before we saw the last Arrow episode. It strikes me as borderline spoilery.
Right now the timeline is really confusing. I do have to wonder how much collaboration there is between writing staffs when they do these one way crossovers.
EDIT: As for when the episode takes place, we do see Ollie in his LoS outfit, so it's obviously after the last couple of Arrow episodes.

Well Ollie was sitting out at that campfire for awhile and Merlyn should did shuttle between Starling and Nanda in a flash. So maybe the Flash shuttle is working overtime.

I stay about a week behind. I just watched last weeks with Grodd and the Iris reveal and really enjoyed it. Felt like the CGI work on Grodd was very serviceable. Using the shadow and smoke to make it easier to use him. What close ups we got were passable for the seconds shown I felt of Grodd's face.

How does Iris just stroll into STAR Labs again?? I'm fully able to believe that Wells gave a passcode to those who could come/go as they please like Cisco, Caitlin, Barry, Det.West--even General Eiling had to be buzzed in some episodes back. Iris though just strolls right in?!

I'm fully prepared to believe that Thawne could pull the body with his ancestor Eddie, who never amounted to much, but then we'd lose a great actor in Cavanagh. Do we really think Eobard gets back to the future? If so maybe he grants Eddie some speed force and this causes Eddie to turn bad? Allowing us Two Reverse Flash's?

How does STAR Labs survive now, with Wells outed? That thread needs to be addressed in the next few episodes.

Overall I very solid episode I felt.

The Reverse Flash storing the costume in his ring has been shown before. Wells put his hand in the display case and the costume appeared. This more obvious though.

Yeah, we watched Comcast on-Demand the next day. It didn't show in Chi until Sunday, right?

That's right..not till Sunday...but like you, the Comcast On-Demand still works the next day, so my kids could watch Flash AND Once Upon a Time.

But it shouldn't be a problem when we Season 2 starts. Now, since it's the Cubs, we shouldn't have to worry about any interruptions during playoff season

I remember when most of an episode of the 90/91 Flash series was interrupted because Bush had some kind of heart palpitation while jogging. They had nothing else to report, but the press was obsessed with determining whether Quayle had assumed the presidency for so much as one second.

Ohh, yes, I remember that well. That was the episode with Bill Mumy as an inventor who'd created an acoustic device that put people to sleep. His partner (brother?) used it for crime, and Mumy had decided he'd had enough and ended up wrestling with the other guy for a gun. The gun went off between them... and at exactly that moment, Dan Rather cut in and spent the rest of the episode explaining in exhaustive detail why the president's heart scare was a complete non-issue after all.

Sure, it was pretty obvious which character was going to end up dead, but still, the sheer bad timing of the interruption was mind-boggling. And I don't think I ever saw the rest of that episode until I finally got the DVD set. (Or maybe I saw it in cable syndication? I don't remember.)
