The Flash - Season 1

I actually thought the CG on Grodd was pretty good for the most part, especially with that one amazing shot where he holds Barry up close to his head before throwing him through the wall. There were other shots that weren't quite as strong (like the first full view we and Joe get of him), but overall I still thought it did more than enough to sell the character on screen.

And the Iris actress did a really good job in this episode as well, even if I thought her anger at Joe and Barry was a bit over the top, considering that they were both clearly acting with good intentions. But then it's not exactly new for people on these Arrowverse shows to react to everything in an overly emotional and melodramatic way, so I guess I should be used to that by now. :D

Although still, you'd think just learning that Barry was the Flash would be something that would have her a lot more amazed and excited than she was. And would temper at least a little bit of that anger she was feeling.

In terms of appearance and texture, it wasn't bad for TV, although there were a couple of pretty fake-looking shots. As I said, my concern was more with the performance aspect of the animation -- real gorillas don't move like that. So that was unconvincing.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Good intentions do not excuse bad choices. They totally deserved her anger. She's an adult, and it was condescending of them both to think they had the right to make decisions for her as if she were a child. Or that their concern for her made it okay for the two people she trusted most in the world to spend months lying to her about something so incredibly important to their lives. That's a betrayal, no matter the intent.

I'm just glad all the lying is over. I'm sick of characters keeping secrets from each other as a plot device. It's a lazy, formulaic thing that writers too often fall back on to generate arbitrary conflict.

I think "betrayal" might be a bit strong. Just because you're close to someone doesn't mean that person is obligated to tell you EVERY secret they might have. And as a parent you should still have leeway to make decisions that you think might best protect your children (regardless of how condescending they might later find it to be).

Although there's no doubt in this case it was pretty silly and contrived for Joe to keep this from his daughter for so long. Especially when nearly everyone else on the planet already knew. Lol

Iris is not a child. The fact that Joe doesn't understand that is the whole problem.

And there's a big difference between keeping something private and lying repeatedly to someone's face about it. She'll probably forgive Barry for it later, but that doesn't mean she isn't entitled to feel betrayed.

We can certainly agree on that.

It is stupid but I like that the writers are aware of the issue and making that a deliberate point.
Love the scene where Eddie tries to not tip of Felicity and than he learns she already knows and says: "So it really is only Iris then."
:)

I agree that Grodd was kind of underwhelming. We had quite a bit of build up here, but he never really did anything that impressive here. It was a nice introduction, and he is still active so there's a pretty good chance we'll see him again. Maybe his next episode will be more impressive.
I was also wondering what is going to become of S.T.A.R. Labs now that "Wells" is gone. They aren't going to be able to just keep working there for long before people start asking questions about Wells.
I really liked the stuff with Iris finding out about Barry being the Flash. I love that she was the one who helped break Grodd's mental attack on Barry, hopefully she'll continue to play an active role in his Flash adventures. It makes perfect sense that she would be mad at her dad, but I just hope they don't drag that out forever. So far they've been pretty good about not dragging out stories unnecessarily long, a lot of shows would have dragged ou Iris no knowing for multiple seasons *coughSmallvilecough*, so I trust them not to drag this out forever.
I'm curious to see what exactly Wells has planned for Eddie.

Interesting, but I think a moot point soon. I am pretty sure, Wells is going to let them out of their cages all at once to create havoc in Central City as one big diversion from his endgame.

Ooh, yeah, and we saw that Wells's endgame involves reactivating the particle accelerator. Will STAR Labs even still be there after the finale...?

It's likely that given what Eobard said to Eddie that Eddie will sacifice himself so whatever plans Wells had for Star Labs probably won't mean anything.

Lots of wondering about about Star Labs but perhaps Wells left ownership to Cisco or Caitlen or perhaps in a cruel twist he left it to Piper. Maybe Barry travels back and saves the real Wells and brings him back with him.
I worry about the show dynamic with Wells no longer there, although he has been moved into the back over the last several eps.
I thought Grodd was ok for what he was and on a tv budget keeping him in the dark with minimum interaction with humans was about the only way to go. Having him smarter every appearance is definitely the way to go. He does need to start eating brains to up his creepy level.
I thought Joe came off weak this ep. Practically crying in the sewer.
Best showing from Iris all season, shows she has some backbone.

Me too. It's one of those "too perfectly obvious" things, such that it's the clear intent. I'm guessing it's really up to Pays at this point.

At the end of the season finally, Barry's dad get sprung from prison. Tina McGee takes over STARlabs and hires Barry's dad. Barry's dad and Tina McGee run STARlabs together, working side by side and fall in love.

I'd rather see McGee and Cisco together.

McGee and Joe?

Joe used to be a love interest for Ally McBeal on Ally McBeal.

But how likely would it be to have Calista on Flash?

;)

But seriously, someone find Cisco a girlfriend.

Of course there is a question about Hank's heterosexuality.

16 years with no access to women.

He's either been a monk or had a couple boyfriends.

Was not sure. Can someone volunteer to translate Guy's posts? I am lucky if I understand a small percentage of what he writes. ;)
