The Flash - Season 1

ZZZZZZzzzzzz

<jolts awake> Huh, what - is it over?

Worst outing so far, literally had me snoozing.
Totally agree.

This one was as bad as the previous was good.

They pulled a total "Year of Hell" out of their hats.

Yep. Lame and clichéd. It's unfortunate that it was hardly a surprise they'd go this route.

Not entirely true as nobody remembered the alternate timeline in "Year of Hell". This also had a dash of "the universe will course-correct" which might be in other media but I quite enjoyed in Stephen King's "11/22/63".

I kind of hope the original timeline still exists as a parallel universe. Sort of like a Darkest Timeline ala Community. Who doesn't want to see an evil Barry with a goatee?

So two days ago Barry leap frogs into the tidal wave in "The Wettest Timeline" and helps rebuild the city for two years until two days from now Barry falls side ways through time only to discover what he had missed out on?

Or do we think that two days ago Barry died when the entire sea fell on him as he arrived in the future, and by the season 3 update-crossover episode, it's been A World Without The Flash for quite some time.

Very well, it's not a parallel to "Year of Hell" in every imaginable way.

Also, the comparison wasn't limited to story.

On its own, "Year of Hell I" is probably Voyager's best episode; it's also arguably one of Trek's 10 best. "Year of Hell II" is one of the worst, even before you account for the reset. It's boring talking heads prattling on for 40 minutes as a place holder for the reset.

But the important part of the analogy is, the thing that made YoHI so amazing was how epically the shit hit the fan. It was suspenseful and exciting. And there was so much character development. Just like in "Out of Time."

However, in both cases, part two retroactively negates all the amazing stuff in part I. If I see YoHI now, all the drama is totally flat because I know it'll inevitably be all for naught. It's kind of boring. I'm sure the same will hold true when I revisit "Out of Time" a few years down the road.

Yeah, exactly. The key comparison between "YoH" and "OoT/RT" is about going large and then immediately walking it back, which is how I took it.

Granted, we don't know how the Flash situation will work out, but I don't see any way that it would make sense for a hero to return to the tsunami timeline, although it might if Barry were a true narcissist (which he isn't).

One thing that made "Rogue Time" so clichéd for me was that there was never any question at all that Iris would reject Barry this time around, yet we still had to endure the train wreck of a conversation between them. And now Barry is supposedly suffering from psychosis. That's just what this show needs: conflation between belief in superpowers and delusional thinking. (No, seriously, it doesn't need that at all; I'm kidding.)

The Flash is a kids show, right?

Lots of non-threatening boys smiling at each other. Lots of meeting for a cappuccino to talk about feelings. Lots of baddies all with super powers but who inexplicably never do bad things at the same time (they respectfully take it in turns)

Is that about right? I'm struggling to get into it

I'd not categorize it as a kid's show but it ain't Breaking Bad too.

It's a nice way to pass an hour each week, sometimes it can be very funny.

Being a CW show all young actors are very attractive who at times whine incessantly about their relationships (that part you got down) however the mystery concerning Dr. Wells (or rather what he's about since we know who he is) is pretty compelling.

If you accept that (and i did for Flash) you will get a show that will probably run for a few seasons and keep you entertained.

It was only a mystery because the producers lied to us.

"Wells is a new character, you haven't seen him before."

Have you ever played Ispy with a liar?

"I am your father." So corny, so obvious, saw it coming a mile away...still got a good laugh out of it.

We're learning a lot about "Wells" this ep.

In all that running around in the flashback, did we actually see RF kill Barry's mom? I've long had a sneaking suspicion that maybe Barry's dad really did kill her for whatever reason.

It's safe to say why Wells' blood wasn't at the sene of Nora's murder. I kind of like how Jesse was turned into Hannibal Lector an Bellows returns as well. :techman: Iris looks great in that dress.

And in the same episode..."Wells" teaches Barry how to use "The Force."

ETA: I think it's official...now literally everybody in the main supporting cast knows Barry's secret except Iris....

Thought I recognized the guy playing the Mayor - he played one of the cops on the old Flash TV show. Same character name too.

Enjoyed Thawne using the face changing gimmick he used several times in the comics. Also we now know he brought the computer with him from the future and did not build it here.
While I enjoyed the Tricksters, the overall plan showed zero signs of brilliance or genius. Just a simple robbery really.
