The Flash - Season 1

It's pretty sad that the crew hasn't been able to make the comic "destined' romances not able to work at all. (Like Black Canary on Arrow)... in a way, Joe West has been the inspiration Barry needs instead of Iris...
Agreed, but it *is* to their credit that they are following what actually works rather than trying to force something that doesn't ( :cough: Clark and Lana on Smallville :cough: ) when they can VERY easily justify it as this being an alternate universe to the one we were previously familiar with.

Whaaaat? MCU fanboys, as well as some DC ones have been screeching and screaming that DC's stuff is too dark, dour and lacks "FUN!!!" Warner's got the message and made their shows more in the "FUN!!" mode. And they're killing it with these shows. I was more interested in what happened on the season finale of The Flash than I was in seeing Avengers 2.

Jay Garrick's helmet was more awesome than the entirety of Marvel's output for me. Bring on Earth-Two and some kind of JSA!

Speaking only for myself, I never bemoaned the lack off "fun" in the entierty of DC's live-action output, just in MoS, which I personally felt was overly dour for the character. YMMV.

The darker approach is fine with characters like Batman or Daredevil, who lend themselves more to that kind of storytelling, it's not an approach I prefer when dealing with Superman.

And I would credit the lighter tone of Flash more to Berlantti than WB on the whole.

Smells like the time Barry dated that girl he met at the bar while going out with Caitlin (forgot her name).

You forgot the name of Linda Park? You must not be much of a Flash comics fan. Linda was the main love interest, and eventual wife, of the Wally West Flash.

Got me there

I'm mostly a Marvel fan and my knowledge of Flash before the show was that he's superfast, a few character names like Allen and West and that he's a member of the JL, there was also something like the Speedforce which is apparently the true reason for his speed.

That's about it.. i am mostly a blank slate so most subtle insider references pass by me but i don't mind because the show is interesting enough and they lucked out with their main lead.

Which is why it leaves me cold for the most part when people here explode about some details like the vision of Caitlin as Killer Frost or that Cisco is to become a superhero of his own.. it sounds cool and i'm definitely looking forward to it.

I guess this is the equivalent of me yelling "Yes!" in the theater during Captain America 2 when they name dropped Stephen Strange and getting funny looks from some of my friends

So, an exercise while we wait for the next season. Who would you cast as Jay Garrick? I'm actually having a hard time thinking of an actor that could portray the right age and still have the physicality for the role.

I am bridging to the next season by watching the 90s Flash for the first time. Took some getting used to, but it's a lot of fun. Just the the Trickster episode which was the one I most anticipated. Pure awesomeness! :guffaw:

Not really familiar with Jay Garrick to cast him, I think, but based purely on looks, maybe...James Marsters with grey hair? looks the part, is fit enough and has sci-fi cred.

That was him last year: http://thedailyquirk.com/2014/04/03/interview-james-marsters/

What about the guy who played his brother Jay on the 90s? ;)

Tim Thomerson. I believe I proposed him as a Jay Garrick candidate much earlier in this thread. However, he's 69 years old, so if the "John Clark" character in the casting announcement is really a code for Jay Garrick, and if they're looking for someone in his late 30s or 40s, then Thomerson would be unlikely.

So what about james Marsters then... any better ideas? Not that i would really expect him.
But it's not like they will cast him as Braniac at some point, is it? ;)

What about Chris O'Donnell? He's the right age and I like the meta commentary of him being a superhero of the previous generation.

No, he still looks too young and also doesn't have the demeanor I imagine for the character.

I always picture Jay as the "can do" patriot type with experience and age/wisdom to play mentor to the next generation. Not "John Wayne gung ho" but more Henry Fonda.
