The First Trailer

The trailer didn't do much for me but turn me off to the 3rd instalment. But then i didn't enjoy Into Darkness either, to similar to WOK and the story was forced and rushed in that movie. I think the other problem is i've grown up with TNG-VOY and thats my Star Trek these new movies may say Star Trek on the tin but don't taste like it.

I still don't get the "too similar to The Wrath of Khan" interpretation. It lifts about three minutes of script from TWOK, but otherwise is a distinct story.

Did "Space Seed" lift a script from a previous show? Did anyone scream "Khaaaann!" in "Space Seed"?

If you're going to use one sarcastic example, do the honorable thing and use them all in your remake test.

I might as well ask: There was also a script in "Space Seed." Does that mean every show with a script is a remake of something else?

That'll do it. Plus the big "Khaaaann!" Oh, and Khan was in it.

Other than the "KHAAAAN!" thing, I can live with the rest.

3 minutes of another thing makes it a rip-off, or what-have-you? I don't agree with that opinion. STID was different in both its theme and social commentary for me to enjoy it, without concern over TWOK.

That said, I can agree with the pacing of both 09 and STID. I'm hoping Lin allows more time for scenes to breathe rather than the quick place of the Abrams films.

Trailer aired at my local Century theater before TFA...iirc it was the fourth of fifth trailer (out of six).

Crowd was pretty much silent...not many OH's, AH's, or buzz compared to the previous trailers in 2008 and 2011.

Interstellar seemed to do OK.

Kor

There are exceptions to every rule, of course. Mind you, that was a Nolan movie and the man has quite a following.

As for the other movies mentioned by Ubik, yeah, I can't explain that, except perhaps exceptional marketing.

They've fucked up with the trailer to be honest, I'll be surprised if we don't have a better one soon. I quite liked the edit someone posted earlier, but I kind of feel like the damage has been done. I didn't think the ID trailer was great either, but it was still miles better than this mess.

Out of seven trailers we got, it was the only one to elicit any kind of audible response in the mostly packed auditorium I was in. There were loud chuckles for the McCoy/Spock scene.

Saw a 2D showing of Star Wars last night (US). The Beyond teaser was a no-show.

What script was lifted?

And "Khaaaaaan" was about 3 seconds of a 7,920 second movie. That's your metric? .037% of a movie?
The iceberg may have had a similar ratio in the total length of the maiden voyage of the Titanic.

That was MY reaction to the trailer but I have seen TFA 2 times here around Cambridge UK now and people reacted well to the trailer......heard a few "fuck yeah"s and "that looks good" around me. The Spock/McCoy scene got claps and laughs. I was actually 1) shocked 2) hopeful 3) disappointed in humans. :guffaw:

By next July we'll have 2 more big trailers and a dozen tv spots.
Nobody (but the few of us in places like this) will remember this teaser even existed. It certainly isn't going to make or break STB.

It's a 90 second teaser. That's how it had to be. I wish most of what we see gats wrap in the same 30 minutes ands it's only a tiny part of it all. Hate that Ildris Elba hat to be so maked up
