The First Trailer

What a disgrace this trailer is.

The Bean Counters and so-called Creative team @ Paramount clearly have no concept of what Star Trek is, or what has made it last for 50 years.

I would actually call this trailer shocking. Shocking that it has the label "Star Trek" on it. This is entertainment for people who grew up watching "Jersey Shore", playing video games all day, and have Jerry Bruckheimer dvds in their collection. In other words, idiots.

What is it with young people in Hollywood that take brand-name Properties, because they can't come up with any original quality ideas of their own--and do new versions lacking the charm & intelligence that made.the original property popular?

Like hell I would buy a ticket to this abomination! Back to Shatner, Nimoy, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew & Picardo on DVD!

Oh man, can you imagine if Bad Robot assembled a "Force Awakens" Trailer with Beastie Boys blaring? Why is it OK for Trek?

That's a good real world point of view and observation. Do you think this will date Guardians of the Galaxy?

BTW can anyone honestly say they could picture Shatner's Kirk blasting any music over the PA?

If you watched the first Star Trek in '09 then you'd know that Shatner's Kirk has nothing to do with this universe as Pine's Kirk was brought up completely differently.

Plus, it looks like this just continuing a nuTrek in-joke, a single short scene that happens to feature Beastie Boys music.

It's hard to get excited for Trek when there's another, flashier and (yes blasphemy) more popular science fiction franchise getting a bigger revival with more enthusiastic and unashamed support from it's fanbase. Sad that Trek fans can't be supportive over this new revival, and cling to the reboot from the 80s.

Yes, it was reboot. Trek as known in the 1960s hasn't been the same since TNG came on the air and changed the dynamic of what the show meant. After TVH Star Trek was finally popular enough to turn the themes of The Motion Picture into a TV show (right down to everyone wearing space pajamas). After what, two decades of basically the same show Trek tries something to be different and fresh, and now people want to return it to the rotting corpse that forced this new reboot to happen in the first place?

My only regret was seeing the new E getting torn apart. I was hoping we could see more of a performance out of her before she gets ultimately junked... sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. Looks like all the curses heaped on her by everyone back in 2009 come to fruition, and the ship never got a chance to shine. A shame.

I'm not bothered by the motorcycle or the soundtrack. I want to see more, just as I've been willing to keep seeing more of the reboot series since 2009 because it's not Berman Trek. I don't think Trek will be anywhere close to competing with Star Wars, but it's getting better.

Lastly... I'll be a little disappointed if the big bad doesn't turn out to be the Triskellions. Because it seems that's where they're going with this.

ok...I didn't care for the trailer either, but is this satire or are you being serious? The first trailer for a film does not necessarily set the tone for the movie itself. It's just meant to get people excited. As I said, it didn't work for me, but clearly it's working for the masses. And just because the first trailer sucks doesn't automatically mean I'm going to skip the movie.

Oh good, a star trek film where they blow up the damn ship (nooooo!) Inthe first 10 minutes and spend the next 2 hours dicking about on a planet.

This reminds me of all the build up to the 3rd iron man film where cast and crew kept waxing on about how it was important to show Tony stark was the hero and not the suit and the were trying to show the suit as little as possible.

No people tune in to watch Tony stark being a hero AS IRON MAN.

Just as in star trek we tune in to watch these characters interact with each other and outsiders as a crew of a starship.
Not disperate groups of survivors In a space jungle without a ship.

It's only trailer 1 but dammit this film better end with them warping away in an enterprise a.:wtf:

Rip jjprise :(

Trek always had a connection to the real world that Star Wars doesn't. It's supposed to be our future, how we imagined ourselves to be. That's why the contemporary connections fit and make sense.

Star Wars, on the other hand, is a fantasy movie, despite all the "sci-fi" labelling it gets sometimes. It is as far removed from our world as could be. Any real-world references would look out of place in a Star Wars movie, just as it would in Lord of the Rings, or any other high fantasy story.

well, compared to this, the latest star wars trailers are masterpiece and feel lightyears closer to what I se Star Trek like in my mind.
Almost seems like the SW got Trekified and vice versa.

I am so not happy with this trailer. :-(((((

Well I suppose I'd better not say anything remotely negative, lest I be considered an old Perry Como lover aged somewhere between 65 and death.

(I am neither)

This trailer just isn't for me.

Hope I'm allowed to say at least that much.

ST official site is already up 500,000 views since I last posted about it. Really wish I could get some ratings from it.

As I said, it didn't work for me, but clearly it's working for the masses.

Comments on youtube are almost all negative, and some of the anger is a lot stronger than here.

Going by Youtube comments we didn't land on the moon either.

You're perfectly free to have opinions, but when you call rap "crap" then I'm gong to call you out as out-of-touch because you sound like everyone's grandmother.

Really?? Well everyone is different. I honestly have the exact opposite reaction. The SW trailers never really resonated with me.

I have long accepted to not trust YouTube comments. As per most places, it is the angry people that respond the loudest, and the new Star Trek movies have had some very vocal detractors. People want their voice heard more when they hate something than when they love something.

The naysayers often tend to be more vocal. Youtube comments sections are often not a good indicator of reality..I've literally seen something with 100 times as many positive likes but all the comments are negative. It's just how it works.

If they get angry over a trailer then they really need a life.

Via BoxOffice.com:

The brain-child behind the reboot of the franchise J.J Abrams has moved on to Star Wars and many fans were worried about how the third film would fare without him. Into Darkness had 30,841 tweets on the day of its first trailer release, while Beyond already has 28,710 as I'm writing this with ~6 hours left in the day. I will also add though that Into Darkness had a 11:1 positive to negative ratio while Beyond has a 6:1 but that's splitting hairs from this distance out.

Captain Kirk is in good hands it would seem which must be a relief for fans who were cringing after hearing Lin was signing on.

90% of people will watch the film and not really discuss it further bar the drive home or a post film meal/drink with friends.

And we should rejoice about that fact and try to prove our superiority to them for it is these people for whom enable the franchises existence in the first place and our hopes for all future trek lie.

But you know....continue your fretting too. It shows your passion and that's a good thing too.
