The Enterprise is getting attacked. That's been done twice before with JJ's stuff. What differentiates this between those films and this one? Other than it's set on a planet - nothing.I think "bad guys wreck Enterprise and strand crew on strange new world" should qualify as a plot point.
Popular opinion or what the masses think isn't a good indicator of anything. The masses like both garbage and quality. People like Big Macs and French cuisine...etc
The trailer is poor. The Independence Day Resurrection and the Batman versus Superman trailers are both good trailers that give a taster as to what is to come but there's little here to differentiate it from other JJ offerings bar that it is more planet bound than before. For a good trailer you need to give up a plot strand - at least in part - to tantalise the public. That's not really happening here as far as I can discern.

It's a teaser trailer...they only have to expose us to visuals and that's it's coming. It's an excellent trailer to show before a Star Wars movie.
You could show a montage of the previous two films and have the same effect. It's a mundane trailer. There's nothing to inspire new audiences here, nothing to suggest a plot.Popular opinion or what the masses think isn't a good indicator of anything. The masses like both garbage and quality. COmpare this to the excellent 2 minute trailer for ST09..we'll see a trailer more like that one as we get closer to July.

I don't mind the Enterprise being attacked. Remember, I'm rating the trailer here not the film. And the trailer is unimpressive unless you are watchin' this just to watch the FX.The Enterprise is getting attacked. That's been done twice before with JJ's stuff. Please enlighten us as to which ST movie the Enterprise was not attacked in before? None? Didn't think so.
RAMA
The best Star Trek trailer was the teaser showing the construction of the Enterprise. You could show a montage of the previous two films and have the same effect. It's a mundane trailer. There's nothing to inspire new audiences here, nothing to suggest a plot.
That's a good real world point of view and observation. Do you think this will date Guardians of the Galaxy?
Well Guardians of the Galaxy take place "today".
But I'm not talking about how movie will be viewed 20 years from now, but how it comes off today. Star Trek is supposed to be about the future, but when you have a guy jumping on a cross-bike blasting the Beastie Boys that's not very futurey.
BTW can anyone honestly say they could picture Shatner's Kirk blasting any music over the PA?

But it's the complete opposite of what was needed to alleviate concerns that it's gonna be "Fast and Furious in space" that a large part of the fanbase has.
Now I understand this is their attempt at reaching a broader audience, but I'm concerned in the long run it might do more damage then good.
ST09 - Enterprise is beaten up a little and loses a warp core. Jim Kirk commanding. Villain - A Romulan from 130 some years in the future.
It has to do no such thing.
Patrick Stewart is probably more famous for being Professor X than Picard at this point.
Ehhhh... Nope
